Ford Cams

Also, if and when you break it in with the flat lifters, make sure to use a zinc additive in your oil, or some racing oil with it already in it. It really ruins your day if you dont....:punchball:

x2! Thanks! I forgot to mention that. Thats just one of the little things you need to know before diving into something like that.

And on top of that, if you end up getting a double valve spring be sure to remove the inner spring during break in, just an extra precaution step recommended by all cam company's.

By the way, if i were to swap out the heads/cam/intake with the motor in the truck, how long do you think it would take me with basic car knowledge?

If you are to get into a project like that i would have someone with you that has some experence with this type of project. As stated youare dealing with timing and tolerances, torque specs. If yuou dont do one little thing right it will not start, or may end up commin apart down the road. I would do it yourself for the experence, but have someone to help walk you through it.

Good call on the valve springs, I forgot all about that!

Lol, you'll have some people say you don't need to depending on spring pressure, but I watched my buddy destroy two cams because he did not wanna take the extra time to remove the inner springs.

Next camshaft he bought he removed the inner springs, cam and lifters are fine today.

yes, I will go by the book from now on too. However I am ditching the flat lifter 302 in favor of a hydraulic roller 351, so I dont think I'll have any problems, I hope.

I actually never removed my inners but I was very cautious with the break in time. I never had a problem.

Whoa, thanks for all the replys!!

But also, are those weiand intakes some good in compare with the edelbrock rpm intake?

i run a weiand single plane on mine VS the Performer rpm and the weiand made the car run better on spray...(2 plane vs single plane)

And what about trick flow, are those really good heads?

Yes they are good heads

A dual plane has its place for a good driving street car. I would only choose a single plane intake if your main concern is racing or high rpm horsepower. The air-gap is a good intake in my opinion for a well rounded street car. It gives good low end torque along with pretty decent high rpm power. Like was mentioned before, knowing your specs on your setup or what your final use for it will be will better help determine what intake to go with. Good luck!

Alright, I think i have it figured out but not quite. I seen that edelbrock has a whole top end kit that comes with rpm heads, intake, cam, timing assembly and gasket set for a little under $2k. It says it should put me up to 361hp with 9.5:1 compression but i have 8.7:1. What are your opinions on this kit?

Do you have a stock shortblock? You would probably be better off money wise to piece things together one part at a time. Find a good set of heads for sale then start piecing the rest together bit by bit. You might save alot of money that way. You can find alot of good deals out there right now due to the economy. People are damn near giving parts away these days. I'm sure you can find some heads, cam, intake, etc....for well under 2k. Good deals are out there but you have to be willing to look for them.
