Ford 9" axle bearing seals.

Mine leaks. Apparently there is no seal, just silicone on the bearing and, well, that aint working. This is my first Ford 9" and I'm looking for those of you who have had these and know the tricks to a decent seal.

Thanks in advance.

It's an actual 9" with new ends welded on to fi an F-Body. I believe it's the larger, 3.149 bearing. I think there is a lip seal behind the bearing that wasn't installed, just sealed bearing that are siliconed.

That's quite possible, guess you'll have to take it apart and see what can be done

A 9" as built has seals outside the bearings

The 9" in my car has an o ring that goes around the bearing on the axle and also a lip seal at the end

The one we assembled for Stormy81s car has lip seals behind the bearing with an o-ring. I believe when we asked Moser, they said the lip seal was not necessary, because their axle utilized a sealed ball bearing with an o-ring seal around the o.d. We installed the seals for extra insurance.

Thanks. I think I'm going to see if I can't get some additional sealing on this when I pull it apart. Needs a vent too, which isn't helping either...

Ah yes. Its been a while since I took mine apart and this is how mine is also. When the lip seals went bad on mine it'd leak fluid, even with the o ring on the bearing.

Turns out that axle seals, a vent and the o-ring that goes on the pinion support ARE IN FACT NEEDED and aren't optional. Who would've guessed? WTF..... Thanks everyone for your help/input.

:shake:
