Update:
afternoon folks ~ an update on today's appointment
we knew going down that there was a chance that thor wouldn't be well enough for eye surgery. We wanted to afford him the chance, and took him for evaluation anyway.
Thor saw the eye specialist who understood our reservations about the risk factors involved with doing a procedure at this point. We all agreed to take things one step at a time and see where each test led us.
Thor had a chest xray as well as blood and urine tests. The eye specialist as well as a cardiologist and an internal medicine doctor had a pow wow and we all concluded that thor is not at a point where he could tolerate a surgical procedure safely.
Thor's heart is somewhat enlarged (heart worms) and his blood tests results are not ideal ( heart worms, trauma, poor diet and a host of who knows what else in his past)
as much as i wish we could have nipped this issue in the butt, its just not possible or safe to do right now. He needs more time!
Sooooo
we got a host of more eye drops from the ophthalmologist and what is nice about this day beyond getting some answers is, he has now seen a cardiologist and we have a clearer picture of his heart worm disease and how to proceed from here.
I wish he was better right now, but we all know its going to be a long time before he is well. We will continue to take it a moment at a time and just keep thor's best interests in mind with every step we take.

In the mean time, lil man is pooped out after a long car ride and meeting so many new people at the vet hospital! He has had some food (since he couldn't this morning) and is sound asleep in his house. I am going to let him rest a while before we do this evenings bandage change!
