For the pit bull lovers on the board - *GRAPHIC PICS WARNING*

Despite some people's attempts to label me as an ignorant pitbull hater... I thought I would share this with you

from another board:

This shit has had me in tears since day one. I'm in tears every time I look at his daily progress pics, but every day I'm happier because he's making amazing progress.

WARNING: This story is sad as hell and THE PICS ARE VERY GRAPHIC!! I'm going to post the day 1 story and some pics, but there's a lot more on the link at the end-- the day by day story, more pics, videos, his Facebook page, and links for donations. Donations are greatly appreciated, but if you can't please spread the story.

A friend of mine and her husband in Flint, Michigan foster dogs on a regular basis. On November 3rd, she got a call from a friend who found a pit bull seriously injured and malnourished. She rescued him and decided not to put him down. They think he was taken from someones yard and used as a bait dog for dog fighting.

They'll never catch who did this, but hopefully the people involved will get what they deserve.

How do you start your day I work? This morning I settled in at my desk, and started the day. Check the emails, drink some coffee, had a little chat with coworkers about our silly dogs.
And then the day changed.

Last night a maintenance worker at an apartment complex in Flint found a pit bull. He was severely injured and very under weight. Thankfully Dave had it in his heart to get the dog to a safe place for the evening and figure out who could help the next morning.
Dave contacted a co-worker on mine, who made the call to me.
I jumped in my car and crossed town not knowing what to expect. A few rushed phone calls to let folks know we may need help with a dog.....

When I walked in to the room where Thor was being kept, the first thing I noticed was the smell. Infection, rot, nasty... whatever you may want to call it, it sticks with you once you’ve smelled it. In the corner of the room was this ball of skin and bones, curled up. It was obvious Thor had been in a serious dog fight and was extremely under weight. Honestly, the first moment I saw him, I was sure I would be putting a dog to sleep today.
You see pictures and videos on TV or the net, it is NOTHING like seeing and smelling it in person.

Action time! Phone calls, figure it out.

We loaded the dog in to the car and I drove as fast as I could to the vet office........

Thor has extensive puncture wounds ALL OVER his face and legs. He has holes at the top of each ear, a hole in his lip, an ear almost torn off, eye pouring blood all over my back seat. But I got him there without crashing the car because I was crying so hard!

A quick heart worm test revealed that Thor does indeed have heart worms. But as we all sat around talking about this sweet dog, it became very clear. No one in the room wanted to have him put down. He is just to sweet, too gentle

SOOOOO

We cleaned all out his wounds. Thor got a serious bath and all of the dead tissue cut away. Lots of ointment, bandages, eye drops, pain meds and some antibiotics

And he is home now. We have converted our back room into a “hospital” for the time being.

Thor will need daily bandage changes and lots of wound care. We need to feed him and get some meat on his bones. Once he is strong enough we will work on the heartworm issue.

As I write this, he is sleeping in his new cage, He is no longer scared or in pain.

Not to be a dick, but why not just put the dog down? Looks likes it's suffered abuse or even fighting, why not show some mercy and put the poor thing down?

Jesus, some people should be shot in the gut and left to bleed out. Good to see he got a second chance at life.

It's a young dog and with proper care and somebody to love him... he will probably be good to go in a couple of months. I think he looks a lot better already. Despite how graphic it looks... it is mostly superficial wounds and I'm sure the pain has subsided greatly just in these few days.

Maybe, but who knows how it will react once it's healed. I may be animal or god forbid people aggressive. I know it may seem like I'm being short sighted, but I don't care what kind of dog it was if it were that badly injured, a peaceful death may be best. Just my .02

Thats cool of you Mike.. Nice donation +1
There are a lot of people on this forum that are incapable of understanding my feelings on the breed. I don't hate them. I know for a fact that some of them are great dogs. One of the sweetest dogs I've known was a pitbull and more than once I passed out at my friend's house and woke up with her curled up on the couch with me.

I just feel that because of some of their character traits that there are risks involved with owning one. It bothers me that some people see any such observation as an all out attack on every pitbull in the world and they blindly fight back by say "FUCK YOU! YOU'RE STUPID! blah blah blah."

I love dogs and stuff like this makes me sick to my stomach.

good to see the dog was strong enough to fight through that.....they are strong animals, its unfortunate some people use the strength in a negative way.

Mike, it says I have to pass more rep around first. The pup looked a 1000 times better with just a bath. Heaven help the person who fucks with that girl. The dog would probably give his life to protect her's after all the care. I have friends with pits and they are just playful pups.

So I'm not going to get into it but Kari (wife) deals with this/ these cases every single day here in Philly. I don't know how she does it but I know I couldn't. One thing i've learned is that animals, even in this condition, can come back to be the best companions you could ever have.

Even if this dog was in a fight with another (not just a piece of shit human beating it), it's easy to tell that it was a bait dog. Bait dogs are training "tools" for other fighting dogs. Bait dogs are, generally speaking, docile/ loving dogs that they think wont fight back to harm the "prize fighter". You can tell a bait dog after a fight from wounds from the shoulders back (and down) to the tail. This means the dog was trying to run away. A head-to-head fight is just that, head-to-head.

If this dog was in a fight with another dog, rehabilitated, i'd have no reason to believe it wouldn't be a good companion. It deserves a chance is what I'm saying.

That's terrible. Looks really young and it looks like a really good looking dog. That's horrible that someone can let a dog go to waste. Looks like he's improving a lot through the pics even in a short period of time.

You are exactly correct.

You are exactly correct.

We've been doing this a little while...

Being an 'Attachment' to an Emergency and Critical Care Doc in a city with the highest abuse/ fighting cases has taught me a lot. The thing's she sees is mind boggling, last night was a dog on PCP, another one marijuana, another one hit by 4 cars! just another night in Philly.

BTW, thanks for donating to a good cause!

ill get some pics of him next time im over....

but anyway sorry for the rant heh..
This type of shit really urkes me..Some people really have no moral compass and its truly unfoutunate that these people are breeding themselves..Theres a stereotype about pitties isnt there..well theres a stereotype for the people that do this shit..they are what they are its whatever..I cant do anything to change the way those people are, but they need to be exterminated..just sayin..how can you treat a pet like this?..all they want to do is feel acceptance and love..instead he was thrown into a fuckin cage to be essentially slaughterd, then left for dead when he didnt succomb to the starvation and injuries..
This dog deserves a second chance because hes not a quitter..he fought to stay alive and now being in the care of professionals he is on his way to recovery..i bet hell make a damn good pet

I would shoot someone on the spot if I seen them fighting dogs. This makes me want to go out and adopt a dog like this, and give him another chance.
