Focus RS vs. GT350

At the Livernois track day, I took a video of a tune only Focus RS vs. GT350. It was in the mid-high 80's and the DA was horrible, but I was impressed with how well the Focus ran (12.8 to the Shelby's 12.6). The next pass it ran 12.7.

First off, thanks for posting this vid. I have seen very few clips of the RS at the drag strip. I had high hopes for this car before it came out but now I'm feeling "EH". Too heavy, too costly, too slow, and maybe too fragile? Harsh words I know. 12.7 I'd good but I honestly expected that off the factory floor. 13.3 is typical for a stocker is seems. Yes I'm a drag guy, yes I like to mod stuff, yes I'm Mustangcentric but I really WANT to like this Focus. The data just doesn't add up.

If I drove one would it change my mind? How is it around town? Looks like a hoot to launch. I WANT TO LIKE THIS CAR!

BTW, that GT350 didn't exactly get a keeper time slip. Lol

No problem! I wasn't sure what they ran stock, but I thought it was impressive for a tune only in hot weather with a horrible DA. I've been out of the game for a while, so not sure what a GT350 runs stock either.

Both are definitely fun to drive even in stock form!

Well, maybe the weather was a factor too. GT350 should be low 12's. I sound like I drank the Haterade with the RS. I'd love to drive one. And yes that is impressive for a tune. My question is how far can they go?

+1

This is a 526hp mustang right? I think they run mid/high 11's @118-120. I could be wrong.

12.7 doesnt seem impressive these days but it really is pretty decent, especially in hot air. My car runs 6mph slower in hot air.

I'm curious to see how far they can go as well.

Motor Trend says 12.4 @ 117 stock.

The best part of the 350/350R is the handling. Not the straight line time

I am well aware of that. It just seems they should do better in a straight line being 300 or so pounds lighter and supposedly 41 more horsepower. Despite what motor trend says we have seen Scat Pack automatics run very low 12 on stock tires, and high 11s on drag radials.

Saw a black RS last night. Pulled out of RiteAid and hoofed on it down the road. Sounded good and looked good in black. I bet it's a great around town car.

A RS would be a very fun daily driver. A set of smaller diameter wheels and Blizzaks would make it a riot in the snow.

Have you seen that Ford sells an additional set of winter wheels and tires as an option from the factory. Very cool idea.
