Focus ac keeps cutting out

i have an 04 svt focus, the ac mostly works.... lets say if i take a 50 mile ride it will stop blowing cold at mile 20 then come back at mile 40, its so random. When it blows good it comes out at 40 degrees. i have checked and its getting power even when the clutch isn't engaged. anything else to check for, or is the compressor shot?

Could be high pressure switch... AC condenser fan not kicking on... Have you check the Freon levels inside the system with gauges?

old GF had a mazda 3 that the A'C would cut out at idle for MPG reasons. it sucked in stop and go traffic.

i haven't checked freon levels with gauges, but i'm assuming there is enough if it is blowing out at 40 when it is working. all the blower speeds work just fine. the only problem is that it will blow out hot, then just randomly go back to cold, almost like a switch is not telling it to work.
