For some reason, sometimes when i am in reverse, the flexplate makes a wierd sound like the bolts are hitting something. I tried tightening them but it still happens sometimes. What could be making that happen? And what could be the dangers if i dont fix it?

289motor/c4trans.

thanks

its probably not the flexplate, since the motor is alway spinning the same direction weather in reverse or drive. Possible trans or u-joint problem?

loose convertor bolts? loose driveshaft bolts? blown out u-joints?

Only in reverse ? Are the threaded ends of the converter bolts pointing towards the block or the trans ?

it's a C4 trans... the converter has studs that go into the flex plate if stock.
I would check the bell housing bolts. I have seen where they have come loose and when the trans torques up it makes a scraping sound. I have also seen the flex plates break around the hub and make a terrible noise.

You might also want to check your engine mounts and trans mounts. if the engine mounts are bad it can allow the engine fan to hit the shroud when it is in reverse.
