first paint job

alright so I started on my reatta yesterday, im only painting the top half of the car, because the sides werent really in that bad of shape, plus ive never seen one two-toned....

Only thing that sucks about it is I had to waste materials painting a dented hood, but I cannot find a new hood for this thing and when I do they want around 400 for it... im not sure i like this car enough to put that into it, so I can handle the dent... I have a bra for it thall cover it anyways

but here are some progress pics...

and thats where its sits right now... im going out to finish blocking the primer, then pushing it back into the garage to lay down the color.. hopefully more pics tonight
 
you probably should have taped it off a little better down low, you may have some wicked overspray
 
what primer is that? Its better to use light colors so you can mist a "guide coat" (flat black) over it to show up the flaws. Should be fun :thumbsup:
 
i'm not knockin your work but your gonna have a tape line sharp enough to cut your hand with a primer edge, base,clear, your talkin a good 3 mils of material

Werd.Unless he plans on putting the actual paint line below where he taped it off for primer.:secret:
 
Not to be the resident redneck, but why not use filler for that dent if you can't find a hood? If you're painting this for the first time in your driveway you obviously don't expect it to be perfect, so why not? Just don't be too rough with the hood when closing it and it should hold up just fine if you build it up slowly in layers allowing adequate time to dry in between (not just throw a thick pile on there all at once.)

x2 on taping off the bottom part of the car.

theres a hard body line that the primer was ran to, also it was sanded down. I wasnt too worried about it being a hard line because theres a pinstripe directly under the tap that follows the other side of the bodyline so itll be old paint/pinstripe/bodyline/newpaint

Should be ok, and even if not im not too worried about it, this is my daily/winter car... its got a 196k miles on it so it was it is.. just better then clearcoat and paint peeling off

Also the bottom half was covered better by plastic. It was removed when we pushed the car outside to sand, and will be back on when the paint is laid down
