picked up a 97 mustang gt yesterday and to be honest i have no clue about the 4.6....ive had a million foxbodys with 5.0s but never a 4.6. my question is are these motors even worth building? at this time im not looking to do anything with the rotating assembly, just looking to do bolt ons. im not 100% sure im keeping the car, i may sell it or trade it for a fox. anyone know any budget ways to wake it up a little. are doing heads heads worth it? are the bolt ons worth doing? thanks in advance

From the factory they came with a whopping 215 HP. My '97 4.6 with a supercharger, running 6 lbs of boost, CAI, bigger injectors, exhaust, and a few other add ons it's still slow. Probably about 300 HP is all with about $2,000 in mods.

They move pretty good with a 150 shot also....

Everything needs:

Sticky Tires
3000 stall converter
100 shot of spray

That should put it close to 12's..

no convertor, stick car......i can just let it go at 7 grand lol

Still won't get you much but broken spider gears or axles, lol.
If you want performance, you bought the wrong car. You could do the PI swap, I'd rather just drop in a PI engine, less work, but even then you'll only be hitting low 14s if it's stock.

Ya, I figured that, lol.
Best bang for the buck of those is 4.10 gears and off-road h-pipe, anything more isn't worth a whole lot, gotta do big stuff.
For looks I'd just drop it and tint the windows, maybe some wider meats for the rear too.
