Picked up this SAR-1 AK47 today. Incredible shape. Came with 2 double stacks, 5 round mag and a bag. Can't wait to shoot it tomorrow at the range. :)

I enjoy the dual wielding. Thanks for coming out there with me to pick it up. I'm thinking about swinging out to Guns Galore today, see about a case and maybe some ammo.
 
Congrats on owning one of, if not the most stupidly reliable fire arms in the history of man kind. Before long you will start hating liberal anit-gun rhetoric as much as I, and join forces with the good guys. I just know it.

Had a good time at the range today. The gun shot very well. I stayed at the 50 yard range to try and gauge where to aim since the previous owner mentioned it was sighted in for 100 yards.

My target. Still need some work. :lol: The first few rounds went into the wood post above the target. I should have took a picture of that. They'll have to replace it for sure.

If it's sighted in for 100 yards, it should be fine at 50 also. From what I've found, the 7.62's trajectory is relatively flat between 50 and 100 yards. There should only be a little bit of rise between 50 and 100. If you plan on keeping it any length of time, I'd invest in one of these: http://www.keepshooting.com/ak47-sks-front-sight-adjustment-tool.html

That's not bad at all for your first time out at 50 yards. It's a lot harder than most would think. AK's aren't known for accuracy. They're designed for reliability and putting a lot of rounds at a target, so don't expect 4" groups at 100 yards with iron sights.

The main keys are sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control (squeeze the trigger, don't "pull" it. You want it to kind of surprise you when it goes off), and follow through. Master those and you'll be ready to take some tactical self defense courses.
