F/S 1984 VW Rabbit GTI 59k miles *SOLD*
Car has been sold!
I know this really isn't Motown's type of car, but I'll throw it out there anyway.
Selling my 1984 Rabbit GTI, 59k miles. Car is almost completely original. I was told it has spent 20 years stored away in a pole barn. Silver w/red interior. Sunroof, vent windows, no A/C. Mechanically and cosmetically excellent. This one of the few true "survivor" MK1 GTI's left in existence.
Exterior wears most of the original paint, but has had the driver's quarter panel resprayed at some point. I don't know the reason for repairs, but the job is very professional and color match is good. All glass and trim are in nice condition. Wheels are near perfect(one has very light curb rash), and have newer tires with 2k miles on them. Car was undercoated when new and is very well preserved with no rust. Rocker pinch welds and floor pans are very nice.
Interior is in amazing condition, with no rips or wear in the fabric of the factory Recaro seats. All gauges function properly. Headliner and sunroof panel have been replaced with correct fabric, rear sail panel fabric is original. Shifter boot is perfect. Carpet is very nice with no shrinkage or wear. New clutch pedal pad and brake pedal pad. All controls work correctly.
Engine runs well with no leaks or smoke(1.8l w/bosch CIS mechanical fuel injection). The original owner had a BAE turbo kit installed shortly after buying the car new, but I have removed it and returned most everything to stock specs. Has newer timing belt, water pump, fuel tank, battery, tune up, injector o-rings, O2 sensor, more. 2.25" exhaust with new muffler. The close ratio 5 speed manual trans shifts well and has had a recent fluid change, new reverse lamp switch, clutch is good.
This is a beautiful, original condition GTI that needs nothing. I looked for several years to find the right car, and have enjoyed owning this clean example, but it's time to focus on other life priorities. Car is located in Tecumseh, Michigan 49286. Price is $7500 firm.
