ok so my expedition is hurtin..it broke the manifold bolts off in the head on the passenger side..well i didnt have money to fix it then so we had to continue driving it..well the cat convertors clogged up and blew the gasket out on the drivers side manifold..and it blew out the gasket at the convetor/y-pipe..

so i took the advice of a member here and took it over to shamrock auto on tele and mich ave..
dude took a look at it and called meback and said that both manifolds need to be fixxed..and itll be a 1000 bucks...i guess im ok with that, but it still leaves the clogged cats..i asked him to eiter remove them or gut them..said he couldn do it..i also understand that..so he told me it woiuld be another 7-800 for convertors..and im NOT ok with that..so i told him to fix the manifolds and leave it unbolted from the y-pipe..

so my question to you guys is what are my options?...im thinkin about sawzalln the cats right off havin a piece of pipe welded in place..or gutting them with them still on the truck..

we need our family mover goin..so i need some help here guys!...
Thanks

I'd try and find a shop that will do exhaust without cats. You are going to throw a check engine light though. Good luck! BTW nice meeting you over at Dave's.

Aftermarket exhuast?

That will run close to new cats.

i thought about it...but the exhaust behind the cats is fine..
i talked to patrick at shamrock today..and i told him to fix the manifolds and leave the cats unbolted..becasue im pretty sure there clogged..hes gonna run a test or 2 to make sure...but if there clogged itll run like shit and blow gaskets out again..

i know of a place or two that will de-emission a car lol..if its just a check engine light from the O2's not reading then ok....but what about driveability?....

You to!...when you were talkin to dave i was listenting and i told colin "i know that guy."..i dont know how but i know who that is...i was like hes on motown and his screen name is 91trunk...
and when you laid out your card for dave i was like GTFO lol...pretty random thats for sure!...i live right around the corner from him..

A long screwdriver or long drill bit will make short work of the clogged cats. A roommate in college fixed his cats by gutting them on his own.

Yup. Punch them a few times, and you can even follow up with a piece of pipe the same size of the exh to finish the job. Start it up and let it blow the chunks out and reconnect. CMS sensors may throw a code. Wonder if the MIL eliminators they use on mustangs would eliminate that? HOpe Partick, Scotty, and Rob are treating you well over there.

Dude, my 97 F150 maifolds rotted out and it was ticking pretty bad. I bought new ones for $100 a side, then paid a shop $450 to install them (that included a $50 emmision pipe that busted they had to buy, and I had to do the rear brakes at the same time, so I don't know exactly the charge on the manifolds.) $1,000 seems high, but then again if there are broken studs they're extracting, maybe it's not as bad.

As far as converters, I'd definatley gut them. It'll throw a code, but other than that converters are gonna cost you $500+.
