I'm not using the Equifax offered stuff, if you do, you can't sue for damages, including class actions, at a later date, just use a third party credit monitoring/security service

I think you mean the lawyers would get $1.98 and you would get $.02.Even if you could 'sue' them, with 154 million plaintiffs, you'll get $2 and a heartfelt letter.
I'm already under "credit protection" due to the government data/information breach a year ago, I'll ride it out and see what the class action suits look like coming out of this.
