I feel like now that my wife's schedule has changed that now might be the time for a puppy it would only be alone for about 2 hours. My dad has taken posession of my beagle and now they are best buds. I saw some in the Monroe paper a few weeks ago for $600 which is dam cheap but they are all sold. Anyone have any leads on a English under $1,000 ? Thanks

be careful with this breed.....you get what you pay for.

Yeah I have been researching them for 10 years. If you get one with medical problems it can ruin you. I figure that good breeders may be asking a little less just based on the economy. I don't want a "Puppy Mill Pup " with hip and breathing problems just to save a few hundred.

Very expensive to buy and own. I would probably get something else.

Yeah I know but I have wanted one forever and everytime we see one on TV or someone walking one my kids go crazy. Just a thought for the last few days since my kids guinea pig died and my beagle got "Dognapped" by my Dad and we have no animals.

I had one for a year or so. Great dog but a lot of work! My dog's only health problem was ear infections. Three times a week clean his ears which he hated. Clean his face folds at the same time to keep from getting irritated skin. I had to give him to a bulldog rescue because he had sleep aggression. When he was sleeping you had to leave him alone. my son who was just toddling around at the time fell on him and was bitten. So the dog had to go. But now tha my kids are older it wouldn't be a problem.

Good luck

every dog ive had were all from breaders and you do get what you pay for they were both great dogs, one we recued from a women who ran a puppy mill, knowone wanted it so she was going to put it down so we got it from her, we had so many problems from that dog we had to give her away.

They are cool looking dogs. This is a pic I took earlier this summer at the Lake Orion Bark Park.

That is a big fucking dog. That'd be like feeding another kid that's 18 years old. Do you have the backyard for a dog like that?

If you don't want a dog from a back yard breeder...don't look in the paper or on craigslist. Good breeders don't advertise that way. Try and go to shows and talk to people, etc.

Since you have been researching the breed for so long, start researching the breeders now. I am not entirely sure what known health issues this breed has, but make sure that whatever breeder you go to health tests the sire and dam. Make sure they are titled and papered. Good breeders don't breed for money. They breed to better the breed. So I doubt their prices will fluctuate because of the economy.

Since you want a dog from a breeder I won't push the joys of rescuing on you ;) Just please make sure you go to a reputable breeder.

A "good" EB puppy will cost you $2500.00+. They cost so much because due to the horrible over-breeding this breed has endured, the breed now has to be artificially inseminated and the puppies have to be delivered c-section. Plus, you pay a premium for bloodlines that allegedly have less chance of health problems. The breed is plagued with serious health issues though. Hip problems, problems with digestive organs, breathing issues, skin issues, etc. Good luck...you're gonna need it with an EB.

Thanks Guys. The truthful posts like these are exactly why I haven't got one yet. It's just something I think about a lot but I probably won't get one. Maybe I'll just dognap my beagle back from my dad for a day or two on the weekends and that will be enough for the kids and myself for now.

No problem.

I think if anything you have done a great job in at least researching the breed and stuff. There are way too many people that get certain breeds and they don't research and take the time to find out anything about the breed until it is too late.

Researching breeds and breeders is so important. Some people just want a dog so fast and don't take time. Even getting a rescue dog...they should be researching that particular dog.

I hope whatever your decision is things work out for you.

try a yellow lab,i have one he is the best great with kids of all ages only down side is his land mines and the fact that he is a bed hog,lol

My English Bulldog will be 10 years old soon, she has not had any problems. She is such a great dog, very good with kids. My parents had on that lived along time too.
