Engine Managment System

INJCTED

Im looking into a Stand-alone Engine Managment System for the Comet. The Guy and I at my work are looking at the MegaSquirt System. Has anyone used this system yet. It looks like the tunning software is very user friendly?

Any Pro's or Con's that you guys have encountered with it?

Thanks
Dominic

I dont know about the MS. But I would only look at a BS3. just my .02 To me the BS3 is very use friendly.

Why whats the matter with the megasquirt system

There are internet claims about how cheap it is, but everyone i know that has tried it says it sucks. With all the add ons for megasquirt, it comes close to the price of a regular system.

Its your engine, is the F/I system something you want to go cheap on ?

TRBOBUICK is right, Megasquirt is cool if you don't want to monitor A/F Ratio or if you want to use a narrow band O2 sensor, but once you add on all the features of BS# or FAST EFI or XFI you could have owned one of these.

I have tuned on all three:
BS3
Fast EFI
Fast XFI

I prefer the FAST software over the BS3, but the BS3 has some tuning features that the FAST does not. All in all, I would suggest to find a B2B Fast EFI (the old school Speedpro) and use that. Have you given any thought to the type of ignition you plan to use? If its TFI then FAST EFI is for you. XFI and BS3 are more advanced and can function as sequential and also do ICC.

Plan on paying $1000-$1200 for a used Fast EFI.

If you need the sensor cross ref part #'s let me know. I have them all and there is some small savings to buying them yourself.

I built one for bad dad, and will build one for my Car. It was alot of fun to build. We are still working on the tune. The newest versions are much better and you dont need as many add ons with you aplication (we have about $700 total into his and we could do it for about 100-300 cheaper next time around and that is with wideband) I'd suggest just the mega2 and a innovate wideband. (with the innovate you can tune useing air fuel ratio alone) The software is very easy to use. Taner was supprised at how much it looked like Accell DFI screens

They have a couple of fantastic upgrade though. a touch screen. right now it is only being used for monitoring but sofware upgrades will be avaliable soon so you can tune on the fly from the touch screen.

Go to www.DIYautotune.com to see the prices and check out the options. If you need help PM me I'll give you my #

Parrish from LS1tech.com has been useing the system for several years now and loves it. (he is the guy who built the chevy powerd farmont for hotrods "Drag week" last year.

$250 for a mega2 an LC1 and some GM sensors (junkyard is the best source) is all you really need. If you want to get trick you can hook up and control individual thermal couples with a interface box for $130. (TC are about $60-$65 each)

i have heard all good things about BS3. my understanding is that it was developed by the man who originally developed FAST/speed-pro/fel-pro. and is "easier" to tune, although that can be debated forever.... and FAST XFI was produced after that same guy who developed BS3, left FAST and started Big Stuff.

once i can find someone to buy my PMS,sensors, harness and WB. i will buy the BS3.

That is true the mans name is John Meany he lives in clinton twsp.

then by buying Big Stuff, you are also keeping your money in Michigan
And he's sponsored the heads-up stuff at Milan from the beginning and he's just a flat-out car guy. I try to pump up big stuff whenever I can because when I was tracking down the problems with my car, not one person figured it out after a few months of long days and nights. I ended up calling him and offered to look at it himself on a Saturday. He had it diagnosed within a few hours and it wasn't any of his parts that were the problem. We returned a week later and we were making blasts down M59 with no problems at all.
