Engine Bay

Time to start cleaning the car up... I have some ideas but want some input.

My car is not wired very well and there is a lot of useless stuff under the hood that I need to clean up. I plan to do some re-wiring during the winter and have been looking for ways to make the engine bay cleaner.

There is a lot of paint chipping and it just looks gross. The whole car needs a paint job but I'm not sure I'm going to get that done this year. My car is a red-orange color so the paint is hard to match. I have seen cars with the bay painted black like a flat black which is something I could do myself... any thoughts or ideas on this?

Any other suggestions?

If you have inner fenders, run all the wiring under the fenders on the car. Did it to my buddys car.. ill try and find some pics but.. its really clean looking.

alos move the batt to the trunk\hatch it will clean it up alot more with out the batt\batt tray in there

God why am i still up!

Is it a factory color? I bought some PPG spray paint for my car. Pre mixed, went on smooth, and looks and matches like factory. Personally, I don't like the black under the hoods unless the car is black.:dunno:

Don't use flat black - paint it in body color. Even if the paint is a little off, it's really hard to tell in an engine compartment. Also, being red/orange, it will brighten things up, which will make it easier and nicer to work under the hood. Get a few rattle cans of Duplicolor from your local parts store (you can also get premium quality paint in spray cans from auto paint stores). Take the time to scrape off the chipped paint, remove and/or mask off whatever necessary items to prevent overspray, and clean everything with a good solvent/degreaser before painting. The more time you put in it, the better it will turn out. I myself have a red car, and wouldn't consider doing it any other way.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the black under the hood... I was looking at my car just wondering how that would look and decided to get other people's perspectives. It is a factory color. I will try that with the paint, thanks.

lol @ the engine bay looking "gross" :)

It happens; It's a race car but I want it to be something I'm proud to show off too. It's a girl thing. lol

painting it is not going to make it any faster...lol

You just concentrate on your vehicle and I'll do the worrying about making mine faster. I am about 100% sure I could smoke you as the car is right now.

Will do. Thanks!

I wouldn't say that. I have a newer/better designed valve cover and PCV valve sitting behind me that I plan on painting before I put on the car. Going fast is nice but I think it's pretty sweet to be able to pop your hood and having something to look at other than hardware. ...although I guess I own a girl car so maybe you're right afterall..?
