Enclosed Car Hauler vs. Open Trailer

Thinking of picking up an enclosed car hauler with all the deals around. New 22ft @ $4,800 but want to make sure it's something I'd really be happy with.

Right now I have an open trailer, great trailer actually, tows great but I always wanted an enclosed. Tow vehicle is a Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins so I'm fine there.

Pro's
Extra storage, at the track and winter time
Safe and secure
Dry out of the weather
Good mileage

Negative's
Bulky harder to tow
Bad Fuel Mileage
Limited size for 4x4 toys
No dirt/rock/brush hauling

Do you have an open or enclosed and what's your opinion?

I would love to have an enclosed trailer
you could add a porta potti, rv fridge, fold down bunks, heat, generator

Well after the last NO ET and watching a couple douchebags walk up to my truck lean in and start looking in the bed for something to steal ...they seen me coming and left ...I would go enclosed in a minute if i could afford it ...still pisses me off when I think about it ..

Enclosed FTW

I store my car in mine, and as stated above, you can lock shit in it.

I went from a 22 ft open to a 24 ft enclosed. Would never go back..

I have a 28' enclosed trailer and if I have the opportunity, I would actually go up to a 32'. That's just my .02

Go enclosed, but get a good one that will last. I would at least go 24', it gives you extra room in front of the car for cabinets/ quad/ spare parts etc. I didn't think mine towed bad at all, barely even knew it was back there towing down the highway.

I have an enclosed 20'. It is very handy. Get back from the races late do not have to worry about unloading it. I use it for storage at times. If it starts raining I just drive the car in until it stops. I also have an open trailer, sometimes it is much easier to use that one. The peace of mind having tools and the car enclosed and locked when traveling is nice.

How's the difference in towing?
What kind of mpg difference?

What do you plan to do with it?

I would say get the enclosed if:

-you would use it for dry storage when not towing
-show car and worried about getting dirty
-plan on sleeping in it/camping in it
-have a race car with no windows
-spend alot of time at the track (U can get canopys that attach and make great pit/camping spots)

If you just want basic transporation, say for day trips to the drag strip and back it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Well then whats the name of the guy you dealt with? I just called down there

24' $5439 5000lb spring axles
$5995 5200lb torsion axles

28' united ULT
$5889 5k spring
$6439 5.2k torsion

i have an open but would love to have an enclosed of my own since the pop's is always full of his snowmobile shit..

It's really worth getting an enclosed if you have the space for it and enough truck to pull it easily. It's really nice to be able to pull in at 3am after a race and not worry about unloading or anything. Plus you can bring a golf cart, tools, coolers, etc.
