Eledbrock Victor Jr or Edelbrock RPM AirGap intake..Which would you use on a SBF 302?

Which intake would you use and whats the difference between the two?I have the RPM AirGap right now and thinking about switching to the Victor Jr..

If I remember right the air gap is a dual plane and is better for a street car. The air gap keeps the charge cooler. Victor Junior is a single plane and more of a strip only manifold, a little more peak power but not so good down low. Man, I have'nt thought about these manifolds for twenty years.

Depends where you want to make your power. The Victor is a single-plane manifold and has a higher RPM range. The Victor works best with a stall and some higher gears. The RPM is a dual-plane and is better for low to mid-range (without a converter and gear...). You should really try to match it to your cam. That will dictate where your power is and the manifold will just accentuate it. They are both pretty good manifolds. That's why they have been around as long as they have. Personally I like the RPM for a street car and the Victor for a street/strip car. Just really depends on what you have and how you want to run it.

If that is the only thing you are changing I doubt you will even notice the difference unless you are at the track and have slips to compare.

The RMP air gap is the way to go in almost every situation.(even better ported with the correct carb spacer) The Victor jr is not a very good intake. Especially out of the box. If you are looking at and require a nice single plane like the Super victor you wouldn't be asking about a dual plane...

Ok,i'll keep my RPM AirGap...Engine is a 331 stroker and ive been having a issue with the front plugs burning too rich, cyl 1,2,5,6 ..I mean the front 4 plugs were black after maybe 50-75 miles of driving..Kinda odd because I thought the carb was junk so I swapped out the Holley 670 street avenger for a Holley 650 with no change but as soon as the cool weather (40 ish degrees) ,the front 4 plugs were burning like they should..Started thinking its the intake but i'll see how the plugs are once it warms up...Thanks everyone..

Did you check the carb out for jet size or a bad power valve before you swapped them. If the issue is only the front 4 cylinders then the issue will be in the front float, jets, power valve or metering block

Yes,I jetted the first carb, changed power valve and rebuilt it even though it was new..Still ran rich on the front 4..If I went down 2 jet sizes,it ran lean as hell...When I put the 2nd carb on,I fully rebuilt it and the same thing..Either too rich or too lean, couldn't get that happy middle..Even adjusted air/fuel...But like I said, for some odd reason,it cleared up and ran perfect once the cold weather rolled in..Heres how rich she was running and thats a brand new plug with exactly 50 miles on them..

BTW,
NO way Larry LOL...

Takes more fuel to run in cold weather but not that much more that it would go from that rich to good. What's your fuel pressure set at? You sure your not blowing the needle off the seat? If you look at the tip of the plug and it rich that means you way rich because you should take your reading from down inside the plug not at the tip.

Yeah the plug was black all the way down inside the plug...The fuel pressure is set to 4psi and im so glad you said that..The one thing I never bothered to ask about because my dumb butt forgot was the fuel pressure reg..Its a holley reg and the last time I was screwing with the carb,I was checking the site holes which was perfect but I noticed one thing...With the key/fuel pump on,I noticed the fuel pressure SLOWLY went from 5psi to 7-8 psi so turned the pump off..I never asked as I forgot all about it but is that normal?I turned it down from 5psi to 4psi and now that im thinking about it,im pretty sure all was good after that..Sooooo,its a bad reg correct?Sorry for sounding ignorant but ive never had a reg go bad but pretty sure it is because ive always ran 6psi without issue..

Standard Holley carb needle and seat are good to 8psi, I ran mine at 7 1/4 to 7 1/2. Yeah if it was set at 5 and went to 7-8 then the regulator is bad or something is hanging it up like a piece of debris or Teflon tape. Not sure how you plumbed your system but you have to be very careful when using Teflon tape. Make sure your needle and seat don't have something causing it to hang open a little. Try putting a fuel filter on between the regulator and carb and see if that helps. My last car had 2 filters on it, one before (100 micron)the pump and one after (10 micron).

Yeah I had ALOT of carbed 302s and 351s,always ran 5-6 psi without issues..The last time I messed with it the reg was creaping up higher so put it at 4psi but forgot to ask if its normal..I did check it after setting it to 4psi and didn't creap anymore..The same day I changed the plugs and 2 months later I check them, all were perfect..So yeah,I feel like a idiot lol..

How old are your heads? Do you think your valves might be wasted on those front cylinders?

Trickflow TW heads and the Valves are fine, bad reg...Just forgot to ask if the creaping was normal..Thought it wasn't but forgot to ask <--- Bone head lol .....I'll rebuild the reg and fuel pump while its off the car...
