electrical problem, need HELP!

I am working on the 97 blazer ls 4x4 with the 4.3.

My problem is intermittent starting. The truck will crank and everything works but it will not start. When it does this the gages do not work and the relays for the fuel pump do not "click". If I let it sit it will start. If I try it a couple times sometimes it starts. There is a "thing" next to the keyswitch. its white in color and has a button on the bottom. It is hot to the touch. I try fucking with wires and swapping relays, no luck. Someone suggested a ground, I looked at the grounds and they are good.

I am thinking it is the ignition switch on the column? Any ideas? Its an intermittent problem and when it occurs the truck will lose power and stop running. First time it happened, the truck "hiccuped" while driving and it lost power for a second, once it came back online it ran fine. A few days later after work it refused to start the first try and once it got running it lost power again. it restarted and run for about 15 minutes and left Rachael on the side of the road. The battery was dead when we got there. So we had Jamie (fiveohcrazy) give us a tow home. Next day with a full charge it started up. I shut it off and tried it again a few times and it started. I came back out a few minutes later and it didnt start. I tried it today and it would start if the gages read and the fuel pump relay clicked on. I would love some input as to where to turn next.

thanks in advance.

s-10s are notorious for bad ing switches. i forget all the years it covers(check Mitchell) . if memory serves me it something to do with a 3 contact switch. to qualify when the trouble occurs, go to the fuse panel and check voltage, you will have reduced voltage at one or more fuses (like 8 or 9 volts) in your case probably 0.

Corroded power lead going to the starter. I've had this happen on numerous GM cars. Inspect the cable at the starter, the terminals usually corrode out.

Also check the ground wire going to the block.

Checked it out. it is not getting power to the relays in the glove box. Out of the 5 terminals on each of the relays only one has 12v.

I changed the ignition switch and its running awesome. I guess you would have had to see the truck to get a good idea of what was happening. I put a volt meter to all the wires on the ignition switch, one didnt have power. i jumpered it to one that was hot at all times and it worked. I unplugged the jumper and it stopped running.
