Eastwood Anti Rust product

I have never seen that product before, but it sounds like it would be a good substitute for traditional undercoating. Not sure how it would hold up under carpet due to the fact that they describe it as a "wax like" coating. If its anything like the stuff they use on GM truck frames, it comes off if you drag a fingernail across it. Stormy81 and I have been in the process of "restoring" my truck (stripping/re-painting the frame and chassis components), and we have had great results with Chassis Saver. Its pretty user friendly, reasonably priced, and from what I've gathered, there is less prep work involved in comparison to using POR 15. Just finished spraying the underside of the bed with the satin black, and it came out pretty nice. I can say that it's hard as fuck, and it covers well. I painted my calipers with it at the same time, and I noticed that there was some brake fluid that made its way onto the painted surface. It was sitting on the paint for a week and didn't touch it.

Never heard of Chassis Saver until recently. Heard many good things about it since I started snooping around. POR 15 is good but I think there are better alternatives out there. It has alot to do with prep too.

Interesting. Would you recommend Chassis Saver for an interior that will be insulated & carpeted? I'm not worried about painting over it, but I don't want anything I lay over it sliding around or having a reaction from being covered/material on top of it. Where'd ya purchase it from?

I have used Chassis Saver and find it to be an excellent product. My cousin works at a Ford dealer body shop and they use it there as well for rust repair and prevention.

I would venture to guess that it would work great for your application. The cured surface is is almost exactly the same as any satin paint, (so it would be almost the same texture as the paint on your factory floorboards) and its safe to paint over. Appearance-wise, its u.v. sensitive, so the manufacturer recommends a top coat if it will be exposed to sun, but only for cosmetic reasons. According to their (Magnet Paints) information, the paint will change from black to a charcoal gray color over time if exposed to sunlight, but the protection properties remain the same.

As far as where to purchase it, I bought my first couple quarts from a NAPA store, but Reiko was able to get me a great price on it, and he usually has it in a day. I would definitely recommend buying it from him if at all possible!

During the course of my project, we have sprayed about 6 quarts of the stuff, so if you decide to go that route, I can help you with the do's and don'ts. lol After reading the directions, I was a little intimidated and worried that it would be hard to work with, especially since I had never sprayed an automotive finish before, but it turned out to be surprisingly simple once we had a system figured out.

I used the stuff made by Magnet- I didn't know an alternative existed, so I can't tell ya which one is better.

Great info!

I'll be brushing it on as spraying is not possible for this. Thank you for the help!

So far I like the stuff.

Real test will be when the carpet is lifted in 4+ years. Hope never but ya never know.

Looks great! As long as you prepped it well, I think you're set. Funny story for ya....When I sprayed the bottom of the bed, I must've missed masking off a small area in the tailight housing, which allowed some of the paint to get on the outside of the bed, leaving some flecks of the Chassis Saver on the paint. I tried to remove it with laquer thinner, xylene, a clay bar, etc. Nothing would touch it, so I ended up having to wet sand the area. The shit is super tough, and they didn't lie about it being impervious to most solvents. I have also hit the frame and other C.S. painted parts with ratchet handles, jack handles, and various other hard objects (beer fueled reassembly). I haven't created a chip or scratch yet.

You're not kiddin about that. I was using 8mm nitrile, long sleeve shirt, and a second long sleeve shirt. The arm and hands still got the treatment as well. The gloves got real weak and even the double pair method didnt help my hands from the CS lol
Good thing I got this dont when I did. There would be no way to vent the area that the floor was in and maintain a safe controlled temp to apply this stuff and let cure. Onto the small parts now!

Thanks Standy and all for the recommendation of CS.
