Dragstrip Rumors Info?

Yesterday the Current mayor of Flint stated that in 2 weeks he would announce the location of a new NHRA dragstrip in genesee county. He currently owns brainerd international raceway in minnesota. His first attempt to build the track off of I-75 failed when investors of the facility left with the money to colorado. Anyone else have any more info about this new? Would be very exciting to have a track so close to home and not a mudpit.

This had been tossed around in the 2000-2001 area. At the time, I believe they were battling locals and noise issues. I would be all over this, and if its NHRA I wonder if it would be worthy to host a National Event.

put it near the airport, then they can'tcomplain about noise.

Even around the airport there are noise restrictions. I know at Oakland Pontiac Airport there are noise abatement procedures pilots are expected to follow. Here people buy land on the cheap because it's next to an airport and then they complain that it's noisy.

It seems that every year since Detroit Dragway closed there's been a rumor of a track that is going to be built that never happens.

Hell yea! They can put a stip anywhere in flint, nobody lives there. Have you ever driven to hardcore, its a ghosttown!

Hopefully its near the interstate on the south side of Flint, but I would think chances are better that it ends up on the north side or along 69 somewhere.

Who cares we'll take it. Now we just need a world class road course to go with it.

This is true.

So the mayor of flint owns brainerd? Or the people that own brainerd are interested in Flint?

I do not beleive Don Williamson owns brainerd, i know he owns alot of property, but thought it was all in michigan.

They could technically put it @ the oold buick city location being the Genesee county land bank owns it now

Donald J. Williamson (63). Mr. Williamson is a Director,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, which positions
he has held since November 21, 1995. He is also the Founder of The
Colonel's and currently serves as Chairman of the Board, Chief
Executive Officer, Treasurer, Secretary, and a Director of The
Colonel's. In addition, he serves as Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer
and a Director of Brainerd International Raceway.

I just found out he sold the track in 2005 to focus his efforts on the political objectives he has.

Man, I made the mistake of driving to hardcore once...I swear it was like i was driving through the Alabama ghetto

I too would love a track other than lapeer.
