donating vehicles?

What is the deal with the new way of doing this? Can I expect to get a tax write off at least near what the car is worth?

They changed the law, you get to write off what it's auctioned off for. Now some places like charity motors, which is a used car lot and not an auction, claim you can put down KBB, but I don't know how that works.

I guess I should have mentioned that...

1996 Dodge 2500 Conversion Van
5.2L
Tow Package
Leather, TV, VCR, Dual radios, etc....
Has about 50,000 miles

It is my parents' and it has been sitting in the driveway doing nothing for awhile now, I keep telling my dad to sell it, and he thinks it would just be better to donate it.

Car Donors can still claim fair market Blue Book value when donating to Charity Motors for all those vehicles that are determined not to be scrap and are used in Charity Motors’ special transportation assistance program to help the underprivileged with transportation. The fair market value cannot exceed the private party value listed in any Blue Book.
