Does anyone have an adjustable pushrod? Ford 5.0L

I forgot exactly which guide I followed but it said to make sure the valve had just finished closing completely, tighten the nut down until you could barely wiggle the rocker back and forth, then tighten the allen lock until it was tight, then back off the lock 3/16 of a turn. After you back off the lock, tighten the nut another 1/4 to half turn. Also the issue with checking lash is that I don't know what cam is in the car so I don't know what the lash should be.
 
How much of a difference would changing the plugs make? Right now i have in autolite 25's, afterl ooking online it seems that the autolite 3924s are best for the twisted wedge heads. Would this be causing my car to sound like it has a real bad tick in it?
