Do HD LED TV's make decent computer monitors?

Cant say I'd go with a refurb, new is cheap enough.
I have hooked my laptop by HDMI a few times to mine to use as a monitor, I'd run it full time if I had the option.

It depends on the panel, you want one with an IPS display. Most LED TVs use a VA display which provide better color depth and a faster response time but is rather poor for use as a monitor. The best TV for use as a PC monitor is the Sony XBR810C as of now. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x810c You may be better served by an ultrawide LED monitor. I have this one and love it https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-...8&qid=1471967157&sr=1-3&keywords=lg+ultrawide

EDIT: 720P on a 32" screen that close will make your eyes bleed. I wouldn't go any less than 1080P, but 2K or 4K would be far better. An IPS panel is a must.

Especially for CAD. We run 1680x1050 on 22" monitors. I tried a 30" monitor and didn't like it. I think twin 24s would be better than one big 32.

Good info, thanks. I'll skip the cheap LED TV then and get an actual monitor. I was just trying to save us a few bucks if I could.

That's what I have now, two 24's plus a 17" laptop screen. I was thinking a single 32" plus the laptop screen would be ideal. I had a 28" when I was at Delphi.

1080p computer monitors are cheap these days, you can get a pair of 24" for cheaper than you would a 4K TV. Asus makes some nice ones that should come in under $200 each.

4k TV as a monitor? Yes, so long as it doesn't give you neck strain. And you don't plan to game on it.
720p/1080p as a montor? No thanks - not enough resolution (plus lag).
