Distributor gear

Anyone use the polycarbonate gear? I used the Everwear gear from lunati. Well, it lasted about 1,000 miles before it disintegrated.

Is the cam walking too much? Oil pump cocked the hex shaft throwing off gear mesh angle (assuming oil pump is driven off the distrib) ?

It's lunati solid roller voodoo cam. Oil pump is high volume melling with hardened Arp pump shaft.

I have a Poly Gear in my BBC. Has been in there for 4 seasons now. No issues and no signs of wear at all 2 years ago.

That's what I wanted to hear! Any opinions on running the high volume oil pump I have a deep ford motorsports pan, a remote oil filter mounted on inner fender and an oil cooler in front of the radiator. The system runs 9 quarts. 10/30 Mobil 1 synthetic. Will the standard oil pump work? I'm spinning to 7,200 rpm. I've also been told to drill a .020 hole in the lifter galley oil plug to spray oil on the distributor gear. I just don't want to pull the motor again for a toasted distributor gear. Thanks.

What's your rod and main bearing clearance. If you run to tight with a hi vol pump it will eat gears left and right

Rod and main clearances checked out good. The short block was professionally built. I've got 160 miles on it so far with no issues.

if the rod and main bearing clearances are less than .002 it is to tight for a hi vol pump which will slow down trying to pass so much oil but the cam and crank are chained together and will not slow down due to oil psi. this is what eats distributor gears shaves the down like a razor blade till there is nothing left. I'm not saying it was built wrong but depending on the rod and main clearance will dictate weather you need a hi vol pump or standard

That's exactly what the gear looked like(razor blades). I wish I would of threw in the standard pump when the motor was out. Looks like I'll be changing gears a lot!
