Discovery channel now seeking street racers in detroit for a spinoff of “street outlaws”

Cool, NHRA has a youth program. What dose that have to do with the street outlaw guys and the guys who race these style/Fast cars? I understand that they want street racing out of the picture, and im probably repeating what everyone has said, but id rather see drag racing like it was back in the 60's and 70's, hell even the 80's. Im not that old im only 22 but my dad showed me the Gapp & Roush cars, Grumpy Jenkins, Sox & Martnin, gassers etc. Where you knew the car by the name on the side not there sponsors. Like i said, im probably repeating what everyone else has said but Id rather watch classes that had cars like these rather than the billion dolor race car. I want to watch "the little guy". Thats just me and the rest of america. Sorry for rant.

NHRA needs to get there head out of there ass. When I was a kid back in the 70's they fucking rocked! Today there just a bunch of old guys that don't get it. The ratings tell the story. But I still wish Street outlaws would take it to a track.

When I was little I went to Milan and Detroit dragway with my old man. The place was packed with bad ass cars and spectators. A lot of it has to do with generation X. Now I know there are a few of you on here but you are the minority. Most of the Gen X people can't put washer fluid in a car. They can't change a head lamp let alone successfully remove an engine from a car and simply put it back in. The cars no a days are so complicated (if you are not trained to work on them) that you can't do anything to them without a computer. There is a large gap in the generation block that does not know how to rebuild a crab, or have never changed the springs in a distributor or do any kind of mods to a car.

A young guy i work with just bought a 67 Mustang. He was telling me that he was going to put an MSD ignition system on the car to "enhance the performance." I started to talk to him about car stuff and found out that he had no idea what the fuck he was even buying. He had no idea what an MSD system can do and no idea how to install one. It is kinda sad that once the old timers go away.....we will be the old timers and there are fewer replacements for us in the future.

I think you're mistaking Gen X for Gen Y :lol: Gen X and older Gen Y are the last generations to grow up with shop class. These days, kids get their brains loaded with useless information. That ensures they can pull out a 6 figure loan to earn a degree, work for a company that don't pay shit, and accept a revolving door policy in place of a pension plan.

I'm not saying they couldn't do it, just that it aint as simple as a click here and some power out there. It would take some time and testing..

Those guys on the show have got it figured out pretty good, but they have a lot of time into it.

The Detroit guys have some serious horsepower, but what most of them lack is tire size... I know Quicks new car can fit some big ole tires on it, but from what I have seen on most of these cars is a 29" tire max.. I may be wrong.

If our local(fast) racers had a few weeks to get some true testing in I think they could do some damage for sure. Hell I remember when the show was supposed to come here last summer the only one that was testing on the streets was Blackstang. I have a buddy that lives over by him and he could hear him making pass after pass, that guy aint no dummy. He was doing what he had to do.
 
Skip (BatMobile) has been hooking and wheel standing on the streets for YEARS on a small tire,still the king of streets to date IMO ..He has YEARS of experience setting his car up on the streets so when it comes down to it,I don't think he will have issues now :) ..If everyone works as a team like they should,IMO they won't have issues..
 
Putting street racing on TV doesnt make people want to do it exactly, it might make it look sexier I guess.


When the first model T rolled off the line everyone high 5'd

When the second rolled off the line they took um out on the street in front of the plant and raced um!
 
as bad as street outlaws actually is.... more shows and programs need to be on TV. we need to get kids interested to replace those of us that grew up with a wrench in our hands....the US went from "the arsenal of Democracy" to a bunch of managers and IT nit wits..... American ingenuity and know how is fading fast. Also each generation after the last seems to be getting lazy-er and lazy-er..... I remember when I was 15 and couldn't WAIT to get my license. now....kids could care less. they would rather stay at home and play x-box.....
 
"As bad as street outlaws is".....at least they dont spot cars and argue how many kits are allowed.... :)
