Direct Buy Memberships?

Does anyone have or know someone who has a membership? How did you/they like it? Was it worth it?

I am getting ready to close on a house and I will be buying an executive desk, dining room table, living room furniture and maybe a bedroom set. I hear the commercials on the radio all the time but I don't know anyone who has become a member. Any insight?

I had one years ago but never used it enough to make it worth the money. Everything is special order and takes several weeks to get. The prices are good but if you only buying a few things it'll be had to recoup your money. Now if your building a new home and bought a bathroom, kitchen, furniture, window treatments and so on you'll make it well worth the membership price

There was a thread a while back on this iirc and the consensus was not worth it unless you are going to buy some volume.

I have a coworker who tried this out a few years ago. He said the shipping/delivery charges are quite high unless you pick up the stuff yourself at one of their hubs - the closest one was 2.5 hours away.

Stay away. A simple google search provides plenty of evidence. $4-5k membership fee up front, special order only, same products available elsewhere cheaper, no returns, high pressure sales tactics, etc.

A friend of mine joined years ago when it was only $1500 to join. They built a house and it was WELL worth their while with the savings they saw. Now the current membership is like $3400 so that will be a lot tougher to recoup the initial fee. But they do have good deals on things if that particular model, options are what you were looking for. I may get a few things through my buddy to save some $$ on some items we are looking to buy. And there is a hub right over in Auburn Hills/Roch Hills area that my buddy picks stuff up at. But like I said I will be using his membership as I have no desire to pay the current fee.

But if you are a savvy shopper you can find some great deals and get what you need for your house. When I bought my current house I got a new washer/dryer from the sears scratch & dent stores and barely paid half of what they list at brand new. But had to go to 2 different stores to get a matched pair. And plenty of deals on-line if you can wait a few days for stuff too.

Current membership is $5k, or atleast as of a year ago.

I've got a buddy that was a big enough idiot to do it. So far he and his wife have bought a couch, rug, and a table.
