is anyone a member? is it worth it? the wife wants me to put slate flooring in our greatroom and i wondered if the deals are any good there.

online reviews aren't pretty:

  1. Just went to an “Open House” at DirectBuy. We were told that the membership would cost $5,390 for the 1st 2 years and $198 per year for year 3 through 10. The “sign now or never come back” was the turn off for us. I think they do not want to give you the opportunity to check them out outside of the store.
  2. Some of the other cost were, delivery (merchandise is delivered to the store) and installation if you are not a do-it-yourselfer.
  3. Each couple had their personal escort, who was friendly, but could not answer the big question. You could take as long as you want to think about it, but could not leave and come back.
  4. Once you told them no, they got their supervisor, who checked that all of your questions were answered and a little story about a couple that had recently come in, opted out, but called back a few days later, changing their mind, but sorry its was too late.
  5. Then you were shown out of the showroom immediately. Not through the lobby, but through a back hall and right out of the building.
  6. Most of the big “savings” came from big items (plasma TVs, furniture, etc), but if you are not going to buy soon, you may not get back your investment for years. Per their calculations that you would save an average of 33% (some items 50%, some less), we would need to buy about $16,000 worth of stuff to break even.
  7. There were 6 or 7 couples in the presentation and 3 of us opted out almost immediately.

had the same experience a very good friend bought in and refered me
sat through their little sales speil didnt wait for their supervisor and just walked out,
my friend was building a home at the time bought all his cabinets , carpet .floring, furnature
and such he sat down after and figured he didnt really save anything
no 1 year to pay no interest
no free delivery

The not letting you leave, think it over, and then decide if you want to spend $6,000 on a membership tells me everything I need to know. Scam, ripoff, bullshit, wouldn't consider it for a second.

If you shop carefully using the internet to highlight savings tips/etc I really can't see how Direct Buy would be a savings large enough to justify the membership fees, and certainly not enough to justify being stuck having to order everything through them. I want to buy what I want to buy from whoever I want to buy. Just my .02.

I was going to check them out one time and they literally called EVERY DAY confirming my appointment two weeks out. After about a week of that, I told them if they called me again I wasn't coming out. So of course, they called me again...

You sure you aren't dealing with a subsidiary of Primerica? lol

Tell the wife to shut up and make you a sandwich. that's what I'd do!

going to a seminar today. I have no intentions to buy or even entertain any of their outrageous offers. I'm strictly going down, putting my hour in and declining all offers and collecting my free toshiba bluray dvd player and $100 restaurant gift card. I told my wife were dressing like some trailer parkers and arguing over our lot rent the whole time.

Yeah, then he'd look like you too, with no teeth.

I was always curious about this Direct Buy stuff. Looked too good to be true, and as it turns out it is. Figures.
:bowrofl:

Direct buy is a rip off... I looked into it and turned right away... Fuck that noise...
