Digital license plates coming?

This is the first I heard about these but at $20-$25 a month fee I will stick with my tin plate.

What is the purpose? So MI Gov can just shut off your plate if they decide to?

And the cops probably get a wifi signal right to their car if you have any out-standing "Issues". Hard pass on that!

But looking at that link, it looks like it's aftermarket.

Just did some Googling....

"How does a digital license plate work?
An electronic license plate (also referred to as a digital display license plate) is an identification sign mounted on vehicles that emits a wireless signal used for tracking and digital monitoring services."

And that makes this a hard pass for me too.

My guess this is a test item for tracking mileage. States will need to figure out a way to make up for lost gas tax revenue as more people buy electrics (Tax based on miles driven?).

I’ve been saying this for years, not necessarily about electric vehicles but about the states trying to collect more $$. The insurance companies have trackers that can supposedly “ save you $$” too which I haven’t fallen for.
