digital camera guys

I shoot Canon myself. I enjoy the lens availability, quality and support from Canon. They make a very good reliable product.

I do have a friend that bought the same camera you are looking at. He enjoys it lots! Although, he is not hugly into photography. He just wanted a nicer camera to take pics with. It is serving him well!

So, i have herd good things about it from him....hope that helps!

"availability" is certainly questionable these days. They do have a wide selection but with canons recent drop in production (ie price raise) some are few and far between. haha

go to flickr and see if anyone has any pictures taken with that camera. Read some reviews.

Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples. I have used nice L glass on older Canon bodies and gotten some great pics.

The question is what is the goal and how much money are you willing to spend.. Form factor and willingness to do post processing is also something to consider..

FWIW, I shoot with a 50D using a 16gb Extreme IV CF card and usually either a 24/105 or 70/200 lens.. We do have a 100/400 which is awesome for some events, but can get tiring to hold because of the weight..

Adorama has factory refurb Canon XTi's for $350. That's what I'd do since I'd stick with Nikon or Canon. Your choice though; if you use one in the store and you like how it works, go for it. Regarding adapters to use Canon or Nikon lenses on a different brand body, I'd do some more research - I'm not sure if the Sony's have in body or in lens IS, and sometimes you lose autofocus. Not to mention that there could even be physical fitment issues (like the EF-S lenses on an EF only body).

Edit: Nevermind on the Adorama suggestion, it's not the kit with the lens.

well bought it last night , took a few shots so far I love it , I need a faster memory card as the camera can shoot 3 frames per second but the momory card cant. Best part is the camera uses the exact same lenses as the Minoltas from the 80s so they are all over and cheap. 70-210 lenses can be bought for 150.00. Im taking it to the zoo this weekend with the kids so Ill have some pictures soon

yep just starting the learning curve its a BIG upgrade from the point and shoot Just need to find a faster flash card for it

slow it was a 7.00 card only bought it to play with Looking for a scandisk extreme 3 seems to be the "favorite" card for it

FYI, that camera is rated at 3 frames per second and even 133X cards will be able to acheive that. you dont need an extreme 3 or better. dont waste your money on something that wont benefit you.
