While trying to mock assemble my shortblock today I found my valvepockets are too deep into the pin area and I cannot 'thread' the pin into the piston/rod...Follow me so far? The rod hits the piston before the .990" holes line-up! SOAB! LOL. I need to slightly remove material from the bottom of the piston and/or remove material from the rod. My question(s); How much material is adequate on the top of the piston pin end of the '396' BME alloy rod? (I have .300" now.) What is a safe amount of material to LEAVE the piston with if I only trim the bottom of the valvepockets instead? Last, how much clearence should I have between the rod top and piston bottom. If this helps: 530 gram bare piston, .125" wall T/S pin, 8,000 RPM? Thanks in advance! I still have my job card from Diamond.
