Detroit City Airport - Supercars?

Saw a handful of cars on the Detroit City Airport runway today, wondering if anyone knows what was up. Had a helicopter taking aerial photos as thy did some kinda of time attack laps, looked pretty sweet. Thought I saw a white Mclaren out, DBK was that you????

We bailed early because it was taking a long time to swap in and out of one car with all the equipment. It's a short course, but it'll be neat for Road and Track to use it and put out some nice videos. Larry Webster actually knows what he's doing behind the wheel of a car, which is more than you can say for most of the other magazines.

I never saw any numbers but the only cars they ran while we were there were the LFA, Viper GTS and a base 911. Viper definitely looked fastest from the eyeball test, but it looked pretty out of control.

Yeah it would be cooking on the straights then in the turns get all crazy, I saw it spin out once on that "S" curve in the middle of the track.
 
Yeah, I was a little surprised given how much time they've had refining that car and the new eyeball melting price tag on that GTS model. But some of the super wild stuff he was doing was just for fun. I was impressed with his driving. Only took a lap or two to warm up and then you could tell he was a pretty serious shoe.

I take it you fly out of that shit hole of an airport ? I spent two days working out there last year.
We took the wings and tail off of a nose landed p210 in one of the t hangers by the old Detroit police hangar/helipad. We entered from the south French road entrance , off of Gratiot . It was so run down that I had to use Google maps to find the entrance.
My boss kept saying " There is no way that this is an entrance , we ate going to get killed. "

Nope, I fly for a major airline out of DTW.
 
So who has the juice to get runway time? Seems like a cool use for an un-used airstrip in a car friendly area...and not many neighbors to boot...
