FYI to all, do not, I repeat DO NOT buy a dell pc. I bought a dell recently big mistake. The dvd/cd drive broke exactly 3 week after purchase. It gets better, Dell couldn't replace my drive with the original because they no longer had those drives and no longer poduced that computer. WTF. So Three weeks after purchase they can't replace the part and can't replace the tower so now I'm getting the upgraded tower which is ok, but this is after seven hours on the phone with twelve different customer servece persons and technicials over the course of 2 weeks and ALL BARELY SPOKE ENGLISH!!!! So I should have bought a MAC like I was going to but I thought I could save money. Boy was I wrong, I would pay to not have to deal with this shit.

Never had a problem with my desktop and its 5 years old...My laptop screen twitches when I open it, so instead of calling, I went to Dell.com and gone to the "live help"... great experience!, they are over nighting me a new keyboard, and a LCD screen for free!

I've had three Dells, including the laptop I'm on now. What few problems I've had have been taken care of quickly and professionally. I also only get english speaking people. Why? I run my own business and business accounts get english speaking tech help.

Everyone else, from HP and Gateway, use foreign tech support. Dell FTW.

where did you buy it that this was the case after 3 weeks? gateway i can understand frustration but dell is usually pretty solid. depending on the drive you could have replaced it for something better for less then $50. towers are cheap too... this is to say if you were tired of the frustration. next time ask people you know first.

foreign customer service always sucks... but it's our own fault for true americans thinking they deserve $20 an hour to tell someone how to turn on your pc.

Not to get way off subject but last week some news show was in China(?) and they were making Bratz dolls. The Jap/American factory foreman said if the doll were made in America, the cost of the doll would be over $70! :eek5:

That's why I went to Dell, I had heard to many good things but I'm hear to say that not everyone gets taken care of right away. I hope that when the new tower comes it takes care of everything and that I am happy with what they have given me. Otherwise foot in dells ass.

I have used Dell, compaq, HP, etc. Dell has beel the best one by far. The only ones to honor their warranties. I will agree, if you bought a budget dell, it probably wasn't your smoothest move. I find it odd though you say you should have bought a mac. If you bought a dell for even close to the cost of the mac, you probably wouldn't have any issues. All of my dell's have cost 1300+ for the computer, but have worked flawlessly for years.

Tips for computers to get the best reliability that I always follow:

never get an ultra small tower, always get dual drives, never get integrated audio, or video, never get the "standard" processor.

Come talk to me next time. I'll build you a great computer of your needs for about the same price as dell but better parts and I will be your service rep.

Also, don't deal with those assholes if something breaks!!! PM me, I could most likely fix your problem via PMs on here and if it is hardware failure I'll fix it for damn near free (aside from getting the parts of course).

Dell rocks.

I've boughts 100+ PC's/Servers/Laptops...

Price+Warranty they are hard to beat. Sounds like an isolated incident...i wouldnt let it ruin your perception forever...

they are GREAT for professional environments. you cannot beat their warranty. The first guy I worked for only used dell.

for a personal computer though at your own house is just a bitch.

I agree with 8urzoh6,

I had a bunch of Dell's break (faulty capacitor fluid) which are like a ticking time bomb for some mobo models that unknowingly have the bad cap solution. There has been large issues among companies besides Dell but they have handled them extremely well. Dell came out and repaired them next day and I didn't even have to fix them myself.

Like mentioned above, you can't compare a cheap Dell to an expensive MAC.
I can say I've had issues even with the "english" speaking support people with Dells business support. I can't say I'd agree with some of their policies, and they definately didn't back their paid support when the time came.

Dell is one of the best available right now. It is all we use at work (EDS) and what my other IT buddies recommend as well
