Dell Computers....yay or nay?

I am looking at computers, because mine is a little over 4 years old, and starting to struggle. Due to working part time, and going to school full time, I am on a budget. I woudl like to stay under $700 including monitor. I would like a flatscreen monitor with it. I priced out a Dell E521 for roughly 579....comes with a 17 inch flat screen. Here are some stats...

AMD Athlon 64 3200
1GB dual channel memory
80 GB Hard Drive
CDRW/DVD drive.

Is this any good, or should I look at HP's?

Edit- I would basically be using it for school, and internet....I do not download songs or anything like that...

I have 5 dell computers... Haven't had a single problem with them yet... The oldest is still running just as strong as the newest one...

I love dells i have had 2 of them and loved them both

But in the other hand

Emachines are VERY good. I got it NEW in 2003 and it running strong...I only have had 2 problums with the one i have now. and thats because my brother download some porn when he was drunk and didn't scan the downloads first.

I like my dell laptop. I could really use MS office, but other than that its great for what I need it for.

For a laptop you can't beat Dells prices, period. For a desktop PC you get way more for your money if you piece it and build it yourself. If you can't do that, Dell is definitly 2nd in line to a custom PC. The on you stated sounds alright. AMD processors over Microsoft bull shit all day long too!

I have had my HP desktop for a while, never had one problem with anything. Bought it for cheap as hell with a flat panel, couldn't pass it up. As for a laptop though, I just bought an Alienware. Although the dell laptops seem to be a pretty good deal for what you get..

hell yeah, but they had a good deal on the one i got. I only paid like 1400 for it. it's just an area-51 with the 15.4" screen, ati vid card, 80gb hd, dvd burner, wireless etc..etc and the new core 2 duo intel processor.
