A friend of mine put this into perspective very well:

"Ken block has got some serious car control skills but he is the motor sports equivalent of the Harlem Globe Trotters. The skill set is incredible but can never seem to translate out of the entertainment/exhibition format."

They may have prepped the surface with some sand or dirt...or the tires were just hot enough (and spinning fast enough) to slide rather than bite and allow the car to flip.
