Daveg's 86 GT

I have been sitting on this project for awhile now and finally decided to keep it. Some of you have seen it at the rental. For the moment its getting paint. Who knows where it goes from there.

I scored it for 2 grand from a good friend of mine Ray, who is a brother to a member here (puttingupwithroadrage). I would love to do more with it than just paint, but my budget sucks at the moment. If anyone wants to donate parts i wouldnt object. I have another friend of mine Alex (aimmotorsports) putting it in color once the prep work is done. Hopefully this resto and his custom can land him some much needed side work and he can take his shop further and someday become a sponsor.

I dont have any progress pics as of yet but it is apart now. A few members can attest to the crappy paint thats on it now (cobra tom, fiveohcrazy, parkesmustang, aimmotorsports and 91trunk). I seriously looks as if it had been applied with a roller.

The car ran a best of 14.3 on drag radials with just a light dusting of the tires and a 3k dump. It only has a few mods, so it may have more in it. The motor is stock speed density except for an intake silencer delete, 14 degree timing bump, headers, dumped flows, a pro 5oh shifter, 3.73 gears, underdrive pullies, and the drag radials. I am sure it needs a tune up and some o2 sensors, so there is more in it from just that. Plus the shifter would not let me bang 3rd. I was told this issue is common and stems from the shifter being misadjusted.

here are a couple of pics from the rental.

looks like you have a pretty nice start!! nobodys projects are nice from the start, hell ive had mine for almost a year and its still ugly...lol.

Mach, I wanted mine to be black after seeing yours.

Dave, I am going to make it presentable and then make it fast. I have always made them quick, but they ended up staying ugly...lol. I dont want to go that route with this one. Its too nice of a car and the 86's are the best looking GT in my opinion.

I am glad you didnt sell it. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I am sure we will meet up at green oak this spring. I need to get some pics. Its almost apart and ready to get samded and sealed.
Mine is almost ready to be prepped for paint as well. It wont happen until I pick up a daily though. Which, I am hoping is soon.

Awsome car what color are u going with ? I like white.

I am going to stay white.

I was going to go black since my first 5 liter was black. I got it off a member here (cobra tom). I will check and see if I have any pics. Its pretty funny that I was a hardcore chevy guy till tom sold me that car. After that it was almost all mustangs.

Thanks for the compliments. Hopefully it will be worthy of them when its done.
