If you were down on your luck do you think "D Mac" would give a fuck about you? No, he wouldn't. People did step up for him...when they went to his games, bought his jerseys, etc, and paid him all that retarded money he got for PLAYING a sport...which is what working people do WHEN THEY AREN'T WORKING!!!! The guy has been GIVEN millions of dollars and he chose to piss it all away gambling. He's had more than a few chances in life. Looks like he's blown them all so far. Maybe after his BK he'll straighten up.

I'm sober, and I don't give a fuck what people think. You can be as pissed as you want. Call it "talking shit," call it whatever you like. I call 'em like I see 'em. He had many chances, he blew them all, now he has to pay for his mistakes. That's life.

if he did steal from his charity, then he is a piece of shit and deserves what he's getting.

if he didn't, then oh well... welcome to the real world of being poor like the rest of us.

it's not that i am happy the dude is broke... i just don't give a shit. i'm not a celebrity fanboy who feels bad for them when they encounter the same shit that the rest of the world has to deal with. fact of the matter is, the dude makes $800K a year, but is still bankrupt? something just ain't right there. :dontknow:

i know Darren, met him after he almost ran me over the night after they won the first cup ( which i got to drink from ) a good friend of mine plays in his band.:badass: he knows he did wrong, and accepts what is happening to him now.

hey all i know is they took OJ's Heismann!!! AND HE DIDNT DO IT!!!!

DONT SQUEEZE THE JUICE!!!!:icon_mrgr

I've met Darren a few times through my Mom's work. He had a big shoulder infection (my mom is a nurse at Henry Ford in the infectious disease clinic)...

He was totally a show off, we went out to lunch and stuff a few times and he always picked up the tab.

In all reality though, that ratio is not too bad. 1.6 million in assets with 800k/year income... 6.2 million in debts...

From someone that used to make 2.1+ million a year. That's a pretty big change right there. You get used to living a 2 million dollar a year lifestyle, then have to settle for divorce (there goes at least half your money), and then you get bumped to 800k/year... which he is probably giving a large percentage to his ex-wife.

Gambling debts or not... the gambling debts were a very small fraction of the debts.

If I had to guess, he probably had 4-5 million in debts, and 5-6 million in assets, with 2.1 million+ a year in income before the divorce.

if he has assets, the Bankruptcy trustee now owns them all is auctioning them off to pay off his debt. Regardless if it's a car, ring or trophy.

He put himself in this situation, and now he has to sell his possessions to get himself out.

I don't feel sorry for him. Sure he did some great public service's and I was unaware of his charity. BUT that is different than his personal assets. They aren't taking the charity.

I guess we'll see his true character in the months/year to come. Whether he uses his popularity to continue his public service or simply turn his back on it and become self absorbed now that he has close to nothing.

I think it's stupid to hate on the guy... yeah, it's tough to feel bad for somebody's financial situation when he's making $800k a year, but if you made $80k a year and then got divorced and were suddenly making $30k, you'd be hosed financially too. The gambling debt shouldn't even be mentioned, it's $160k out of $4+ million in debt. Big deal... I'm suprised there hasn't been more of this with hockey players really, because their salaries took a shit after the lockout. Probably won't get better either, because as far as fan interest it was a marginal sport to begin with, and after the year off hardly anybody gives a shit.
