Damn DC DMV!

Hey, I could use the collective wisdom of the Pub right now.

My car will not pass inspections back in my home 'state' of washington DC bc of modifications. It looks like I should probably consider registering it in michigan. I'm a student though, so I will have to look into the whole proof of residency et cetera.

Haven't done enough homework to have any real questions yet, but stay tuned, I'm sure i will... At least MI doesnt have :bs: inspections

The inspection guidelines are VERY strict, and they typically state if anything on the vehicle looks like its been tampered with they can deny the vehicle. So even if the stuff is stock but theres say a bolt missing somewhere, catalyst or mufflers look not stock they have to fail the vehicle, fix it and re-inspect.

Your best bet is to find a place that you can pass inspection no matter what if you catch my drift. There are a lot of shops like that in inspection states.
 
Exhaust and tint.

They are nazis in DC, and you have to go downtown to get it inspected at the main branch. I was prepared to deal with the exhaust (bullets on the vette are rather obnoxious in all fairness...) and i have a buddy back home who'll swap 'em out for the day for a 6 pack.

I don't want to strip the tint, though. :(

just the side windows right, or does the back window have to come off to? the side windows arn't to expensive to get re-done are they? that glue's a bitch to get off though :nuts:
 
Bullets? I'll pass... I threw a set out after I cut them off.

I thought you meant like you had headers and a full exhaust and other stuff.

There are emissions legal exhaust systems with headers, blowers and other stuff you can do. Although it will cost more.

Is it? damn. The tint's on the side and back - pretty dark. I'm not sure of the current legal % in DC, but it was at least 50 on the back a few years ago when i was first considering it.

id look into it again before you rip it off. try not to rip the back off cause those are usually expensive to tint. hell, maybe even rip the side tint off and try to get away with the back window still tinted. :dontknow: how strict are they about the back window being tinted?

from what i hear this trick works well for joe all the time. :laugh: :flip:
 
most states can't say a word about tint on rear windows since not all vehicles have usable rear windows
