Cruel or Reasonable?

Was crusin' Ebay today looking at what PS4's are going for and stumbled on this little gem. Auction is over, so if the link below stops working, I put the picture and description below. Cruel or Fair? What do you all think? I think this is soooo mean. Haha. I mean, you show him this bad ass gift he was probably begging for, then not only does he not get it, but his dad is actually making an ass out of him with it. Its kinda funny, but so cruel at the same time. I guess I sympathize with this kid, because I ALWAYS fucked up in school. Ever since first grade, I failed out of pretty much everything. I'm pretty sure they boomed me along because I was such a nice kid. If my parents did this to me, I'd be devastated. I know how much you can want something as a kid and to have it so close, that your holding it, but then ripped away, is heartbreaking.

Discuss.

Still in the box. Never opened. Purchased as a pre-order from the local Wal-Mart. It was meant to be a Christmas gift, but after my son has continually failed to turn in his school work and brought 3 Fs home on his midterm I figured he might need something else for Christmas, like tutoring. I can ship the receipt with the PS4. Not sure if that is standard with this type of thing or not, but seems like it would be in case someone needs to take it back. Never Ebayed before, so let me know if I you have any questions. Ships as soon as Paypal transfer is received. Shipment will be with Signature Service to ensure shipment has arrived

Wow that sucks. Guess it doesn't pay to screw up. I think that it is a little much with the picture. If he just sold it fine, but the picture brings it too far in my eyes.

This kid is already getting back at his parents as we speak he probably stole his Dads pot stash and sold it for a ps4 he will keep at a friends!!!lol thats what I would do if I was 12 and the anwser is cruel I would put it away till his grades come up give him something to work for now he is just going to slack off even more

We'll the ad says continually failed to turn in work not that he just failed classes. In this case lesson learned... Turn your shit in. Now if he was just failing than it might have been over the top. My opinion take it for what it's worth.

Humiliating your children doesn't teach them anything. Storing the ps4 until there is some improvement teaches how the work/reward system works.

Just my $.02....

Dunno, sometimes humiliating might work if they know the consequences. I saw a girl wearing a sandwich board sign earlier this year that said "I'm a thief, I stole money from my dad". Her dad was sitting in the car and she was walking back and forth at a busy intersection. I have to believe she'll never steal from him again.

I have yo agree. His lack of attention in school obviously isnt a "new" thing so why did he even get a ps4? Were his parents hoping it would fix things?

I remember when I was a kid, some of my friends were really bad kids yet they had everything.

Sloan Kettering?? Johnny Hopkins??

In my opinion, its a good lesson. My girl's son continues to do poorly in school because he is lazy, so no gaming for him. If a kid is genuinely having a hard time because they dont understand the assignments, or struggles with the work, I can understand (and help). But if its plain laziness (not doing, or not turning in assignments), then negative reinforcment, followed by a hard lesson is warranted (again, in my opinion). These kids nowadays with this "I dont give a fuck" attitude really piss me off.

Seems like a ploy just to get more attention for their auction...people will pimp their kids out for 1 minute of fame!

Shouldn't have bought it for him to begin with.

Don't give them stupid video games in the first place.

Agreed. If he isn't involved in sports, I'd heavily encourage him to join one. Pretty good motivator to do well in class.

I cant blame the parents... If you cant prioritize at that age it will only get worse as years go on. It seems like his parents treat him well anyway... PS4s arent cheap... Im sure he still has an "old" PS3 or Xbox 360 just lying around somewhere that hell have to dust off and use lol

I'm basically doing the same to my 19 year old
Partied too much flunked out of college
He is now paying his own way
Sometimes you have to let your kids fail
A little in the end they need to learn on their
Own the effects of their actions

My favorite is when a parent says that their kid has ADD, but he can play Call of Duty online for 14 hours straight on a Saturday.
