I'm in a Michigan History class at OCC and I have to write a book review on anything to do with Michigan's history, recent or not. It's due early December, and I still haven't found a good book yet.
I've just recently narrowed down some ideas, mostly along the lines of motown, barry gordy, the purple gang or the riots of '67. Anyone have any good books on these subjects that are an interesting and somewhat easy read? Anyone know of a good way to search these topics to find what I'm looking for??
Thanks in advance!

If you want to get real historical, the timber and furniture industry was the boom for the lower peninsula, and mining was the big thing in the upper. This would be 1800's too.

X2. The LP used to be COVERED in White Pine. Michigan's population went insane during the furniture boom. Tons of info on this out there.

Herman Miller furniture dynasty started on the west side of the state, and large portions of the lumber to rebuild chicago after the great fire came from here as well
