coulda changed the cluster and stuff, isn't an older SS the easiest car to fake? If it's real though I'm really interested.

beertestr, thanks for the heads up. Your VIN decode is accurate. The missing 2 digits are just the build sequence number.

The only way to tell a real 1969 Chevelle SS 396 is:
1. Build sheet, which is located on top of the fuel tank
2. Numbers-matching 396ci engine
3. If it is paint code 72 (Monaco Orange) or 76 (Daytona Yellow), as these colors were only available on SS396 Chevelles

There were 3 different 396ci engine available in the 1969 Chevelle SS396
1. L34 325hp (5500 rpm redline)
2. L35 350hp (5500 rpm redline)
3. L78 375hp (6500 rpm redline)

Additionally, the 375hp L78 engine cars had only 1 fuel line, whereas all other engines had a feed and return line.
There are differences in trim between a SS396 and Malibu/300 Deluxe: I won't bore the group with details. Alas, all of these are bolt-on parts, which is why it is easy to fake a 1969 Chevelle SS396

I've contacted the owner's son: this car is running a mild 454ci engine with a TH400 trans. The front end has been rebuilt with polyurethane bushings, new springs, new front disc brakes, new Flowmaster exhaust. It has new Scat ProCar front seats, a recovered back seat and a new console with correct shifter. He says it needs a trunk pan. I've asked for a picture of the trim tag so I can decode it: he said I need to call his dad for more info.

If I were up for a project, I would go check it out. However, now is not the right time for me.

Hard for me to tell but does that look Red to you or Orange?

Look for cars that fail smog they are CHEAP

If memory serves me, this car has a Ford factory 9" rear end with disc brakes.

Probably wroth it just for the axle...

I have a Lincoln Versailles that I am trying to sell. The car has been stored since 1991. Odometer reads 26k. The car starts up and the transmission engages. The brakes feel a bit soft but are working. Can't take it for a drive because the fuel tank has a leak. To get it running I hooked up a fuel line to the fuel pump and let it suck from a gas can. This was my neighbors fathers car. Apparently it was owned by one of the Ford family members originally. The body of the car and the interior are in very good condition. The paint needs some TLC and the interior just needs some cleaning. Soft top seem is splitting. Sun roof works.
I don't have a lot of knowledge about the car but if you have any interest get in touch with me and we can find out more."
