Cool/Interesting/Oddball finds on CL

Always thought that was a great body style. My dad had one new. They were fun to drive but very slow by today's standards. Back in the day I wanted to get one and put a 340 in it. Wonder how much boost they can handle?

not alot, a guy I know stuffed a Big Block chrysler in one

I've seen a few 4G63 swaps. I originally thought these had early 4G63 engines in them, but I think I was wrong.

There's a guy in my neck of the woods with a red one I see frequently on Hoover. Sounds nice and has a big front mount on it. Not sure what's under the hood though. I don't believe there was a large aftermarket for the Conquest/Starion.

I had a silver 87 tsi 5speed with burgandy leather.... Loved it. Called it the getaway car....it was slow as piss.

I agree these were neat cars. My uncle bought one brand new. It was so different than anything else at the time. It is pretty rare to see one today.

Stock boost is 9lbs. 15lbs is generally the top of the "safe" range.... the weak link at that point is the head gasket. With a copper gasket, I think 20lbs is pretty much the max. The intake on them is a limiting factor (TBI).

Mine was set at 15lbs and I'd say it was about a 14.0 car. Not really fast, but it handled so well. The automatics are dogs.

I really do want another one... but they are starting to get expensive. Hard to find one that checks all of the right boxes... has to be a 5-speed, has to be an 88-89 (interior improvements, bigger intercooler, SHP package which included wider wheels and adjustable shocks).

Thanks for this info. 15-20 psi could be pretty fun!
