College Hoops 2015-16 Thread

Statistics do not favor UM getting in.

  • Michigan picked up a much-needed win at home over Purdue, and the Wolverines own the strangest looking profile in the bracket. They have wins over Maryland, Texas and Purdue, which are three top 25 teams, but those are also their only three top-100 wins. There has been only one team to get an at-large bid with fewer than four top 100 wins since the RPI formula changed in 2005. That was when the committee made the mistake of taking Middle Tennessee State in 2013, which had a gaudy record, but only one top 100 win. The highest seed for a team with only three top 100 wins is a No. 9 seed, which was given to Bucknell in 2006. Even for a team with four top-100 wins, only two teams have been seeded in the top half of the bracket.

I personally think this is going to come down to the B1G tournament. They do an ok showing and they should get in. They go out early and it's unlikely. I just don't see them winning any of the remaining top team games they have left. They should beat NW. At Maryland is not likely to happen. At Wisconsin is a maybe, but unlikely, and At Iowa is highly unlikely. That leaves the tourney for them to make a statement.

current bracketology (CBS) http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology has UM playing in the 'first four' against Seton Hall. The loss to MD stung some, though we're at least in the talk still. A win over NW and something other than a quick exit from the B1G tourney should get us in the tourney.

ESPN has us in the tourney as a 10 seed. If we won that, we'd play Xavier.

At the moment we should be ok as long as we don't implode against NW or get bounced early in the B1G Tourney

M has some close losses. They could have won yesterday. Dumb mistakes down the stretch. Learn how to inbound the ball ;)

or not let the other team go on a 17-1 run. That may have helped things too

It must suck to not know if your team is good enough to get in the Tournament. You'll probably have to enjoy the NIT...

I'd rather have a coach with morals than. So looks like we both got what we want.

I'd also rather have a coach who doesn't cry every time a player gets hurt or a call doesn't go his way. Again, looks like we both got what we want.

Yep, a coach with no morals. That's why MSU has never been on probation under Izzo OR Heathcoat. Have they ever been on probation? Unlike Michigan with
the Fraud Five...say hi to Chris Webber for me. All coaches get pissy with poor calls. Enjoy the NIT...

There's getting irritated with calls and then there's Izzo. He cries almost to the point of tears about how unfair it is. Get an injury? Cry about how it puts the team at a disadvantage. In the last 2 seasons Michigan's star has been out for the majority of the season because of injuries. When's the last time MSU has sustained a star with a season ending injury? Remember that stretch this season where they lost to anyone with a pulse? Their star player was out. This isn't football with 85 scholarships. But Beilein doesn't cry about it, he works around it.

And you really want to bring up how high and moral MSU? How about the lawsuit MSU just lost for redacting FOIA information to keep players names from public record in relation to incarcerations? Or how about the rape? Michigan kicked their kicker off the team once the information for that was fully presented. I didn't see that treatment from MSU. And if you really think the NCAA is fair and balanced in their assessment of violations, you're far more misguided than I thought.

Michigan is where it is because they were cheaters. Chris Webber and the Fraud Five had a payer. They took the money and ran. To this day, they still suffer that stigma. Beilein is a good coach, but even he still has to deal with what's left. Izzo will be a Hall of Fame coach. Gets his teams to Final Fours. Even with injured players. Izzo has been at MSU over 20 years. They've lost players and kept right on going. The MSU practices are famous for being tough. They use football pads!!! Maybe Michigan just has a bunch of little women playing on the team.

As for the rape issues at each school. MSU should have thrown out the offender if they knew. Michigan KNEW. The kicker missed a bowl game. Both schools have no reason to be proud about these players. Hell, I wanted to see the softball coaches canned after the assistant coach threw at one of the players.

As for the NCAA, what should have MSU been penalized for? And are you saying UM should not have been penalized for Webber getter $250,000 for his time there? UM got off lightly. Maybe they should have done a better job of hiring coaches and AD's.

Izzo has been suspended by the NCAA for violations

Beilein runs a very clean program. Probably too observant of the cleanliness because of the Fab 5 era. I think this does impact the game for Michigan. I like how clean he runs it, but they are regressing year over year. he didn't capitalize on the Trey Burke era and pull top recruits. he still does a decent job of developing players, but it's just not cutting it. 4 out of 9 years (If my memory serves me correct) with a trip to the dance isn't acceptable for the facilities and money that organization has. I foresee a coaching shakeup at the end of this year in the form of assistants getting taken out. If next year isn't an improvement over this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Beilein himself decides to 'retire'.

As for this year, we're still on the bubble. If we beat Iowa in our last game (highly unlikely) we'll be in for sure. If we lost to Iowa I think we need to go 1-1 in the B1G tourney to be in and that will likely be a play-in game. We lose to Iowa and go 0-1 in the tourney and I don't think our chances are good. That said, other teams could have an impact on this as well. There are a couple teams which sit just outside the top 100 on the Ken Pom index. if they win and move up into the top 100 that could potentially give Michigan 4 or 5 top 100 wins which would move them off the bubble into the tourney outright.

They are still on the bubble. Most have them as an in or a play in. If they bounce in the first round of the B1G tournament they won't make it. They make it past the first round and they will likely be in.

As an aside, considering Michigan lost 2 senior top players this year I think their season went well. Look at how well MSU did when they missed just one of their players and that was only for a short stretch. Try losing 2 essentially the whole year.
