Cleveland value question

I have an early 70s 4 bolt block and crank that are standard size and curious as to the value because I have someone interested and don't want to rip either of us off.

I know these things can bring good money to people looking but I have no idea what good money is.

Thanks in advance

What's the overall condition? Can it be freshened up or are the cylinder walls pitted? Is it just the block and crank, no timing cover or oil pan etc?I've seen people ask crazy prices for tired original Clevelands

I know people that would want a Cleveland, but a lot of them live in Calif, Az or Nevada. The people who the engine is attractive to are people with Mustangs or Panteras who want to keep their cars stock. A lot of the Pantera owners have already swapped out their Clevelands for either Windsor or Mod engines. Also, a very common thing to do is to put their Cleveland heads onto a Windsor block...Pantera owners have been doing that since the late 70's...

While the Clevelands were great engines for their time, they were very unreliable. They were Ford's first engines with thinwall castings and the casting shift was horrible. The walls were thin on even a non-bored block. You should only clean up a Cleveland block and try not to bore it .030...

I know people will say that a friend of theirs bored out their Cleveland to .060, but that is very rare to be able to do that and not have one of the walls crack shortly after it was put back into service.

Just my .02.....grr

It will clean up fine, it's got surface rust from sitting but it's not pitted or anything.

It's just the block , crank and balancer nothing else.

Would the crank be a steel crank or cast? I really have no clue about this to answer questions about it.

So price?

So price?

If it sonic checked OK and you don't need to add a sleeve it is worth probably $500. If there is a bad cylinder, then you need to add a sleeve and the price would drop to maybe $200. Remember, it is common to have to add sleeves to never bored blocks and that is in the neighborhood of $100-$200 for just that.

grr
