CLEAN 91-92 CAMARO

problem is you'll have to look nationwide and then it's transportation. cheapest i've ever seen destination charges from cali to here is $1,000 to haul a car. now think of gas mileage and equipment value. i'm not saying you can't find something but unless you run across that low mileage, less then 80k miles for under $3,000 going anywhere less then a 6 hour drive is pointless as these cars aren't that rare yet.

you'll spend more time and money searching for your car then had you paid a little more. but again, do what you must. i was the same way and gave up because of the very little reasoning behind it. now instead of buying 2k or less cars hoping to put 500-1000 into them to have something fun to drive i stick between 4-5k cars knowing that i have to do nothing. enjoy them for awhile and just flip them.

as for mine they were only suggestions and i only suggested it to help. i'm at the point with them that any more time or money spent will require them to have to sell for over 6k to be worth my effort granted at that point they will be local show worthy but that's time i just don't have. hopefully you'll find one that works for you.

Yea. after all the searching we've done, the cost of time/gas....ya. Pat figure out wtf you're going to do!

before i forget good looking is an understatement as well. i have never bought a car under 2k that had good looking paint that lasted. this was because A. the person just recently had it painted and it was painted cheaply or B. it didn't have nice paint because the car was abused.

paint is expensive.. price it out by the quart. materials and what have you even for me to paint my last car by myself which was factory teal i spent $600 in materials. add that to your 1k for a clean body. now think of it this way. 100k mileage car which most all thirdgens under 3k will definately be will have rust somewhere. if you do not strip the car the rust comes back right? point being floors and quarters. one car i had the underside looked prestine.. push on it with your hand and the prestine floor moved?

won't even tell you what that was..

back to the paint... seals/weatherstripping/etc with these cars is expensive. without them the car will get water in the worst spots and rust fast... to replace them even through softseal without a deal a complete car is $500 plus for new seals. make sure the car you buy has good seals/weatherstripping. it not only improves the appearance of the car but does the obvious. so with that said take your $1k for a straight frame, $500 give or take for the materials with a good paint job and $500 + a weekends time in weatherstripping. your at 2k and you haven't even gotten into your $500 interior, $$$ drivetrain/suspension, etc.

these prices are all bare minimum doing all of the work yourself. you can build a really sweet thirdgen for reasonable but you have to start with a very clean frame. if you buy one needing work cheap goes out the window completely and if you have to pay someone for anything along the build forget about it.

so keep options in mind, understand the pricing system and realize what's most important to you. also, pat if you read this what your saying about your drivtrain... the rs models have a different fuel system setup then the z28's. you will need new fuel lines motor back... similar in ideals when you do a 4thgen tank swap.

you'll need a new pump too obviously... so the $100 at best you save on a guage cluster going the low optioned rs route versus the $200+ in fuel lines, $125+ for a pump to support it and the 4-5 hours you hope at max that it will take you to put it all together must be looked at. make sure to consider if it was worth the $500 or so less you paid for the rs model. this is a good reason why even 1k more for a z28 optioned car is well worth it. won't even get into the things you already know such as the electrical, the unibody frame itself, suspension, steering components, etc. if your doing all aftermarket with this stuff that's one thing... you may not see a benefit of paying more then $500 extra for a z28 but that's a definately price difference that is worth it down the road with all the other things to consider on these cars as they are completely different.

real quick also... rs for parts... not really the body as a whole. 91-92 gfx mostly and everything else is nickel and dimed. z28 completely different. there are 4-5 things tops on a rs worth over $100 as a single part. z28 there are at least 15 items each worth over $100 and with the z28 this will only go higher because of the parts being harder and harder to find. just something to think about. pre 91 cars are worth less, unless you find a low mileage one and then it's either totaled for parts or your building it.

so many variables that when it comes down to it 3-4k for a z28 with good miles and good condition versus say a 1k rs that needs work makes it rediculous to even think about once you really get into building one but this i know you know.

:D

just spent a good hour looking across the internet... you weren't kidding. i can't find a 91-92 in michigan on autotrader for less then 3.5k that's even worth looking at and come to think of it i can't find one less that isn't... the prices on these things are jumping fast.

no i'm thinking i should seriously hold on to mine..

i found one reasonable deal if you can make it to california. a 92 z28 convertible with only 97k miles for $5,500. either it's junk or the owner has no idea.

good luck, looks like your going to need it...

:(

did you try this one.. this is worth it if it's true. the wheels obviously have been changed so i doubt it's true though.

this is the only thing i see worth looking at so far.. it's been up for several months so unless you've looked at it i'd check it out.

this one if clean is worth 1500 or more if it's a real z28.. no z28 hood, front spoiler, rear spoiler, grille, etc makes me think otherwise though. it's been repainted too so who knows what your getting into.

here's a funny one.. this time last year i went to look at this car. owner wanted $2,400. i told him up and down it wasn't worth that. i offered him $1400 knowing that i could possibly get 1800 out of the car by cutting it up. guy sold it for $500.. it was so rusted, everything was busted up. that was a fun 30 min.

Not the first one, but the second one was terrible! Not even a real Z28, rear subframe crushed badly. Not even sure it was a 350 car. Everything was bad on that one!

looked/called/emailed about most of those cars, either i am way to picky, or junk is worth a lot of money:bowrofl: that teal one is so bad we walked away before even starting the engine... Trying to come up with more money as we speak, would really like to come look at that rs with some cash in hand lol

junk is worth alot of money unfortunately with these cars now lol... it's a weird situation. parts are just very expensive. as i mentioned the prices i told you i'm still loosing out $1k each on them as to what i put into them and i get really good deals on everything so imagine the same car, same price or more.

well they are just sitting, i'm driving the black z28 some when i can. the rs is currently at the shop getting a few things fixed on it. strictly cosmetic. if they aren't gone by december i'm going to have to finish restoring them and then the prices won't be cheap.

good luck with your search, i'm sure you'll find something.
