Classic FAST help

I'm trying to learn the system but I have a few basic questions.

I have an issue when I'm trying to start the car it sounds like it has to much timing. I shut the computer off and it turns over freely so it's not cranking amps.

I looked at the tune and I only see Base Spark Table and ESC parameters. Base spark tables shows 30* from 0 - 1350.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds to me like since base is at 10*, and the ECU adding 30*, that you are trying to start with 40* of timing, drop that base table to 0* till above 500RPM or so, see what happens

Are you using a crank trigger or the TFI? If its crank trigger and you have your reference angle set correctly the fast will be showing total advance in the tables. If you did not set your crank reference angle up or have it wrong in the setup file your timing could be anywhere - I would confirm this first.

My low load low rpm idle is set at 37 degrees - I have an XFI but the setup is the same. If its TFI I have no idea!

The instructions say set base timing at 10 and I believe the tables are outputs for total timing. I did try reduce it down to 18 but didn't help.

It's TFI, thanks though...

Did you sync up the distributor with what the timing screen is, i.e. if your main timing screen says 22°, does your balancer also show 22°?

The fix is easy....Mod Engine with a EEC 5

Really? How does it in run in your car(s)?

Nope, I just picked the car up last week and haven't check. I'm going to change plugs and wires and then check the basics. Thanks for the input.

I'm guessing there's no other timing tables then?

I haven't used a FAST system before, however I've dealt with plenty who have. has the car ever run as it sits now? if so, then I'd say the timing was already set, although if its new to you then I would go ahead and check timing again just to rule that out and confirm its running where you tell it to. Get the car running, warmed up, etc and then you have to sync up the timing, set the whole main timing screen to 25 or something safe for idling and confirm the balancer is showing the same as your screen. I don't know that I'd set it with 10 intial, I think I would go to 0, the main timing screen is total timing so your SPout is defunct really now, I think. There should be a 1 or 2 other timing screens, for adding on startup/pulling when temp gets too high....

send me your tune

Please also provide the info on the car such as injectors and fuel. I will take a look.

Your idle issue could be a lot of things. Are you using timing trim? If so, how much. By seeing your tune I can get a better idea of the idle parameters.

Thanks,

Tim Johnston
