Circuit City in TROUBLE

Ummmm... how so?

Well for one thing:
"Refund will be in the same form as original purchase. Exceptions: Cash, debit or check purchases over $250 will be refunded in the form of a mail check within 10 business days of return."

So if you buy any item for more than $250 and return it ( even if you return it the same day ) you will have to wait for your refund and then it will be in the form of a check!

One time I bought a laptop from BB and it was $600 ( I paid CASH ) when I got home I happened to see that Circuitcity had a laptop just like ( Not exactly the same ) the one I had just bought. Same manufacturer just a different model number ( Some manufactures make laptops almost identical but give them different model numbers for different retailers ). Any how the Circuitcity laptop was on sale for $479. So I went back up to BB to see if they would price match and if not then I'd just return it ( Unopened ). BB wouldn't price match because it wasn't the same model number. So I asked them to return it and refund my money. No problem they said but then explained that a check would be mailed to me from the main office and that it could take up to 2 weeks. I was PISSED ! I paid cash, on the spot but they wanted me to wait up to 2 weeks to get a check refund.
I told them I would have to think about it. Eventually I was able to talk to a district manager who got the store to price match CC but then I still had to wait for the differance to be mailed to me in check form from the main office!

Also at the bottom of there legnthy return policy it states:
"Best Buy reserves the right to deny any return."

I had that happen to me when i bought the LCD TV this spring. I bought it from BB as on open item, brought it home and of course it didnt work, took it back and they said they had another in the back but was still in the box (opened though). I took that one home and the entire lower right corner of the TV had been smashed (dropped). Took it back again, this time they told me that they couldnt do anything for me because they were accusing me of dropping it. I went into a fit, but of course there was no manager to talk to so I left. I went back with my wife a few days later (so she would keep me calm) and talked to a manager. He said that they "may have another in the back" but this time the new ad has come out and guess what, the exact TV BRAND NEW was the same price that i paid for an open item. I told them I wanted a brand new one, they said no. I told them I wanted my money back, they said no. Again, Im going crazy trying to figure out a way to get this handled. I was even willing to pay a little extra for a little larger TV (NEW) and they werent having it. Finally I had a manager agree to just give me a new version of the TV and ive been happy ever since... with the TV, not BB.

I think with any big box store you are bound to have issues. even with the issue above at BB it doesnt compare to CC losing my speakers for 3 months and then charging me more than i was quoted, if I didnt pay it they would have kept my speakers.

it all depends on how you handled the situation and all employees react differently. there is usually always two managers also and as long as your the right which is explained in lenghty detail as to what that is on each stores website then your fine.

$250 or more is typical of any store if your going to return not to give you cash. when you take something in for repair warrantied or not you sign something saying your subject to their terms. it's unfortunate but part of what you signed in fine print, CC and BB are the same in that area. 3 months is excessive and had you complained properly i'm sure something would have been done.

As for product codes that's true also, CC has been the more higher end version of electronics when it comes to the standard store which is why it's a bad things with it slowly going out of business. BB obviously buys more bulk owning more stores so they technically should be the walmart of electronics yet they are not.

unfortunately it's all such a great gray area.

If you are part of their reward zone this sunday november 9th best buy is holding a "private" shopping event which will have some nice bonuses and discounts from 8:30-10:30. you need an invitation to go that should have been sent in the mail to you.

also, most stores honor black friday pricing on more expensive items online. i bought my tv at 5 am at circuit city online so i didn't have to wait in store or deal with the crowds.

I think, i mean i KNOW i handled it properly. Very calm, collected and professional however when a store LOSES my merchandise while searching trucks, warehouses, other stores, as well as infinities repair facility and takes 3 months to track them down I get quite aggravated. Then when they arrive they want to charge me more and hold my product hostage thats just not good business.

oh well, i guess trying to get the new canon 50D for dirt cheap isnt going to happen.

FYI
Found a killer deal on at B&H on this camera if anybody was looking. They have exclusive canon rebates and free shipping right now!

anybody think I should wait a month for better deals? One reason I dont want to wait is that I already have a buyer for my current camera but im sure I could find another buyer later.

best buy: $1399.99

back in the day you should have had it in the 6 week maximum return time which is listed in the fine print on the paperwork or it's considered lemon or otherwise and they give you a new one in store. if you KNOW you handled it correctly then you did your best and that's all you can do. very unfortunate. next time you buy a warranty check this little part out as they clearly have to state a date status of repair before you hand it over.

the thing is, this wasnt warranty work. i had a pair of vintage infinity monitors that needed re-foaming around the woofers. Circuit city said they could do it no problem and it would be 2 weeks. they sent them out to infinity to get re-foamed, really isnt a hard job nor is it expensive. They came back 3 months later with brand new woofers, not re-foamed vintage ones which I wanted (to keep them original and the vintage infinity speakers are better than what they installed). The kicker is, I told them I was quoted re-foaming and not new speakers and thats where I thought the extra $$$ came when I got my final bill. I was wrong, they actually told me that they did not charge me for the woofers but rather all the freight charges from them having lost the speakers which weighed ~50lbs each. I couldnt believe it, that they were making me pay for a mis-shipped/ lost set of speakers that was clearly their fault because both speakers didnt even stay together due to them mis-labeling them. One went clear across the country while the other stayed in Michigan.

It was a crazy scenario that I never want to go through again.

cc was in trouble when they fired any one who was worth a fuck and knew what they were talking about to save money.

that's any store now days that isn't specialty and people don't want to pay specialty store pricing. everyone wants to hit up the internet or walk into a high end store to find their info and then jump on ebay or craigslist to get the item dirtcheap. times have changed.

I have always hated that store. I've never spent a dime there :D

I agree, I feel bad for the jobs lost.

I think the only thing I've EVER bought there was a CD. That's the only time I recall ever even stepping foot in there. I thought they were horrible compared to Best Buy.

I once went in a CC looking for a PC game. I found games from mostly 5+ years ago on the shelves, so I went to Best Buy instead.

I stopped into the Dearborn location last night and was looking foward to getting some steals. Well the signs plastered on the door say save 20% storewide. Well there is really nothing to spectacular in there and only seen 10% off on most items. Save the gas and time and just wait til black Friday people. The news blew it out of proportion about saving some money all they need to do is box up the product and redistribute it to another store location.

:shake:

Until all the stores go under, which looks like it will happen

I can truly see why!

The store setup is just weird its to open hard to find items/ computer selection is crap. Their prices are high and selection is slim compared to bestbuy.

Only thing I hate about Bestbuy is their employees

When you need them, they're no where to be found

When you don't need assistance they are up your ass and every aisle you walk down you get asked "How can we annoy the piss out of you today?"
