Circuit City in TROUBLE

I got through to one of the stores, they said 10-30% off entire stock. no rainchecks/ special orders of course. he had no clue what was going to be 10% off and what was going to be 30% off.... they didnt have what im looking for at the store so it makes no difference to me, I will be calling the others stores tomorrow though.

sounds like you guys had some bad luck, circuit city has better warranties & better pricing. having worked at both stores knowing the inside and out circuit city is the better store. that's ashame..

Pricing? Either store will match the other.

Im not a fan of any big box store. They carry only the yuppies junk. If I wanted new A/V equipment I'd quickly make tracks to Hawthorne or The Gramophone.

CC has sucked anytime I delt with them. The last time was when I bought my 60" tv. I went to them and only wanted the 50" or 55" but they were sold out.(of course I need it now!) I believe they had the tv on sale for 400 off or something like that. I told them if they matched the 400 off on the 60" I would buy that one instead. They said no so I went to BB and they gave me the 400 off on the same 60" and a few extra bucks on top of it.

I worked at CC for a very short time, I couldn't stand it! They had horrible labor scheduling. They had shit loads of people working during the day standing around, no one working in the evenings and I was forced to work multiple departments in a shift, for some stores this would be fine, but when you talking to someone whose about to drop 2k on a TV or PC its a little different then the toilet paper is in aisle 12. Just from working there a short time I knew they wouldn't be around much longer. The only thing that sucks about this is that without competition Best Buys customer service will be on the down slide like it has been for the last few years.....

x2 I agree with this comment as well. I have had poor customer service related situations with Best Buy on several different occasions. Circuit City always seemed more flexible and not so hardass about some small little detail.

well if anyone goes to the stores let me know how the deals are. I just called all of them and most said they cant check stock because theyre closing so Id have to go in. Thats out of the question because I'm in lansing.

oh well, i guess trying to get the new canon 50D for dirt cheap isnt going to happen.

the pontiac store doesnt re-open until friday for the sale BTW

they didnt hint that was the case. Im sure what doesnt sell will go the warehouse.

10-30% off everything but the good stuff is only 10% at most. the 30% off stuff is like furniture and such.

on the camera I want which retails at their store for $1499, they gave me the discount price of $1439. not good enough for me to buy it thats for sure, its only 4% off an already high retail price.

I will be in the market in a week or so for a 67" TV stand, might go check out the rochester one this weekend.

you guys are expecting a big lots sale for a place that is closing stores and not doors... isn't going to happen. bigger deals on black friday then this situation so i wouldn't get worked up about it.

as for which stores are better it's obviously matter of opinion but the fact is between best buy and circuit city they both carry different electronics which is nice so at least the option is there. places such as gramaphone and the rest are high priced highland stores from yesteryear. everyone knows deal searchers who like to haggle still deal with abc warehouse anyhow.

as for customer service everyone has had issues at one point with each store but if you break down dollar for dollar circuit city is hands down a better format.

as for employees it's been years since i worked there but best buy as a worker you made your wage and that was it, you pushed warranties and that was it. circuit city you did the same but you actually earned spiff awards. it was not uncommon for someone to make close to $20 an hour if they could sell at circuit city where $6.45 was the norm at best buy. if there was staffing problems it was the manager/stores fault not the brand. those who never really shopped at circuit city miss out as you will save alot of money over the blue box.

so I thought this would be a good opportunity to get a new TV. i check the CC website, found one I wanted and figured 10% off the price would be sweet. i go to one of the stores that is closing, the TV was MORE IN THE STORE THAN ON THE SITE! FAIL. Lame. I was greatly annoyed.

they price match their site, should not have been a problem for you. ask to see a manager as they have to match it and then do the store discount if they have it in stock. if they don't have it in stock they even still should offer the sale to you and allow you to pick it up remote.

When a store is going out of business.. a lot of time, that store no longer belongs to the company. A liquidator takes over the store and sells the items.

When Service Merchandise was going under, this is what happened to them. The liquidator jacked up the prices by atleast 10%. So, when they started their going out of business sale, the original NEW price was well above the original OLD price.. then they would add the 10% off sale sign to it, making the item, really, back to it's old price.

I highly doubt that you're going to find that 60" TV for 60% off at any of their sales.

They would most likely, jack up the price or ship the higher end items to other stores to be sold there. Which happened at some of the smaller Joanns stores, once they close and the new super stores were in the area.

i picked up my 42" for 45% off on black friday but the sale was for one hour only and i have yet to find the same tv as cheap. they want to draw you in so certain things on that day are about as good as it gets these days for normal "popular" items.
