i need some suggestions on what airport to fly into that's closest to down town as well as some suggestions on places to go and a really nice place to stay.

is ohare or midway the better place as they are a bit different in price?

also would like a to know a nice hotel comparable to royal park in rochester or the townsend in birmingham.

any suggestion would be appreciated.

The Knickerbocker is a nice place to stay. I wish I could remember the pizza place I went to, rated one of the best in the nation. I liked the ESPN restaurant/game place, Chicago Harley Davidson, and Lego Land in the 5 story mall. Lots of cool things they put together there, full size Darth Vader, and all sorts of stuff like that. The Hard Rock kinda sucked, but just walking down the main strip was cool as hell. People entertaining, giving shit away, lots of fun. There are a few cool clubs on the North side too.

anywhere i can go to find out more info? i'm trying to find a nice place to stay that is close to all the main action.

thanks for the suggestion!

there are a ton of hotels right in downtown, like the holiday inn and stuff like that and they are all within walking distance of everything. O'hare is an awesome airport it's super nice but it may still be about 30 minutes from chicago. If you are goin to chi-town navy pier is a great place to go, along with the magnificent mile where ALL the shops are, Rush St. has side by side clubs for miles and ends at a Bentley dealer...

I'll check, we just flew by the seat of our pants, no reservations nothing.
It's one block off of the main strip, can't never remember the name of it.
Oh something like the miracle mile or something.

i'm looking for a really nice place to stay that we can pretty much walk from our hotel and go... taxi only if need be. anything in particular really stand out to you?

as far as the airport, it's cheaper to fly into midway... anyone know which is closer? i really don't care either way but i'm trying to decide if i'll need a car as i've been told trying to have one in the city is horrible.

i really appreciate the suggestions.. please keep them coming so i can figure this out.

sounds good... if i survive this weekend i just might have too.

if anyone else has any other suggestions please feel free. thanks everyone!

I stayed at the Knickerbocker before, its nice for the price, but wasnt completly up to date, and the rooms were smaller then some hotels. The Hancock building is very cool to go up at night, very few people=more alone time:wink:

I was just there in February. I did priceline for the hotel. Told it what district, and how much I wanted to spend a night. Ended up in the hotel connected to the Chicago Auto Show for 80 a night. http://mccormickplace.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp

That's great because it's just outside of the city, so you're close to all the museums, yet still can get a cab into the city and it's only gonna cost a couple bucks. Let me know what you are wanting to do and I can tell you some things that will help you out.

We bought a 3 day pass to the public transportation system there (I highly recommend that if you aren't wanting to walk everywhere and taxi everywhere. The only place we really had to walk to was "second City" for a comedy show (which I highly recommend going to). We got pretty close, but the bus routes didn't go directly there, and neither did the Subways.

if you're looking for a good place to eat, I highly recommend the Hancock building. There's a restaurant on the 95th floor that is absolutely amazing to be at. Eat a little before dark, and while you are eating, you will watch the city lights creep toward you. One of the most amazing things you'll ever see. http://www.signatureroom.com/
