My bro in law was in a rush to get gas, and didnt have it all da way in "P" when he stopped and shut off the truck yesterday. When he got home, he couldnt get the tumbler turned enough to get the key out. So now the furthest it will turn is in the "ON" postion, it wont go any further than that, so the key wont come out. So basically he had to disconnect the battery last night, otherwise im sure his battery would have died.

Any suggestions? A new ignition from the dealer was like $480 when he called and they said it might be that.

Typically it has to do with the car not fully engaging in Park that's y the key won't come out. Under the steering wheel there is a button or what looks like a button , stick a key in the little indention and the button falls out ( no force required) and then stick a long skinny stick straight up and you will hear a faint click and the key should come out.

floor shifter. I dont think there is a hole under the column, or my bro in law isnt looking in the right spot. :(

with luck, it is just the park interlock solenoid, pull the lower column shroud off, and push the gold colored button you will see at the bottom of a white plastic cylinder, see if the key will now come out
